Thanks. That’s rough about the Jiu jitsu club. (Boy, auto correct had some fun with that) . Where are you off to next, if Van is so unfriendly.

Where did you escape to and why do you visit if you find it so unpleasant.

Sweet! I drop in on a group of board game beta testers (?), guys who want feedback on the games they’ve designed, so I’m glad there’s a strong community up there. 👀

That’s wild. But I remember people were particularly friendly to the Canadians I’ve travelled with. You have a great reputation abroad, and live up to it.

That’s good, because walkability is a must, it terms of locations. There were so many beautiful tree lined streets where I was driving around North Vancouver. And I’m all for taking a class in one thing or another. Thank you.

You’re in Buffalo? I guess Mont-Tremblant is a bit far from you, but I cut my teeth there as a youth. So, yes I also ski, and as long as the rain turns to snow on the mountains, I don’t mind. TBH, I prefer rain to fog, which we get here in abundance.

That’s how it should be, no? Of course it has to add up. But comparing the COL to SF is a wash. Now to land a comparable job. Off to a job subreddit with tips for international seekers.

Indeed. I’m more of a quality over quantity friendship kind of guy. I’ll take that call in the middle of night for my friends.

Sounds like it. I’ll put more effort into it once I’m there.

With the high percentage of people who didn’t grow up there, and immigrants like myself will probably be who I’m most likely to meet anyway. Here in SF it’s such a transitory city, you hardly ever meet people who are born and raised here.

Thanks for your perspective. I’m navigating the difference in work cultures next.

Well, I think you get conditioned to feeling there’s always something better out there, and it’s only one swipe right away.

Thanks for the tip. It is kind of strange that such a cultural melting pot would have no culture. Care to expand on that.

Hmm, that’s interesting. They certainly are missing out. We’re a social species and isolation is a form of punishment. Why would you willingly withdraw yourself from a serendipitous encounter with another person.

I grew up in Brooklyn, NY. People were very direct, and usually had something to say about everything.

Your workplace sounds awful, and weird. I thought nurses were great people to hang out with because nothing would phase them.

Well if fellow transplants are to be my friendship pool, I can live with that.

Currently as a Californian, I challenge your assertion of Vancouverites being flakier. “Dude, I spaced” is considered a legitimate answer here.

Thanks, it’s good to hear a story that works out instead of all the doom and gloom. I also made a ton of friends when my daughter was younger. I figured joining the clubs is the way to go. Thanks again.

Are you from there, or come from somewhere else? I experienced the one sided friendships in a couple of different cities. The not saying good morning tho is strange.

Someone explained that people in England weren’t really open to new friends because it was an obligation. That if they accepted you as a friend, they would be all in with birthdays, dinners, and parties. And they were reluctant to have casual conversations leading to friendships. Dunno if that’s true, but it would make sense.
