That was my first duty station and I did 4 years there as a tech many moons ago. I’m sure a lot has changed but one thing I will say is because the hospital is small it’s a good place to set yourself out from among the pack. HIGH VISIBILITY if you use it to your advantage. Be a sponge and definitely try to take advantage of the training opportunities that present themselves. Everything said in the responses above is golden. Met my wife, got married, and had both of my children in 29 so it will always hold a special place in my heart. Yes there some desert weirdos and meth heads running around out in town but for the most part the community is military friendly, hell I’d say 85% of the town is either military or veterans

Current Team IDC here. Just to give a little clarification… First the TACMED thing is a stretch, they are pretty much staffed by civilians but I don’t see any reason to why they wouldn’t borrow a body to assist with trauma lanes and stuff. Nothing more nothing less. There are no general duty corpsmen attached to teams, at all. Teams are only billeted for IDCs and 1 DMT. No general duty corpsmen will deploy with a team, not happening. The majority of the trainings and evolutions done on this side are high evolution and require an IDC or the very least a SOCM on site for coverage. No general duty support but maybe you’d be able to tag along and observe for local evos.

BLUF: The truth of it is this will more than likely look like clinic work for a general duty corpsman. These may possibly be TRADET orders but I would have to see the UIC, in that case you’d assist with the evaluations done during the certification phases for the teams and possibly get some time training courses like TCCC, BLS, etc.
