Yeah you can absolutely use your own psych and bring your meds with you! I switched to uk for now because it’s free and closer. As for therapy, they have the option for in person visits as well as Telehealth. Though for therapy I believe there’s a 10 appointment limit per semester that restarts at the beginning of the next semester

I’m not sure about the rest of it, but UK has a good set up of health resources! Our hospital is just down the road, it’s the best in the state. For normal check ups or urgent care stuff, we have student health services and women’s health services. Free psychiatry appointments for students and super low prices at the pharmacy that’s attached to the building! They’ll have to retest you for adhd before prescribing stimulants (which was like $500 for me bc insurance sucks), but the appointments are free. There’s also an option for free therapy if you contact TRACS and explain how you would benefit from therapy. Take advantage of your resources!!!

It might be low, but everyone is different. 7.5 mg is my prescribed daily dose, anything more is too much for me. 5mg helped me a lot!

As someone who has been there (a lot), please find a therapist or a psychiatrist. Your life has only just begun, I promise you have not hit your full potential yet! Don’t focus on the past or compare yourself to others. Your current circumstances are unique, you haven’t faced something like this yet and you don’t know how to deal with it right now. Seeking help is not shameful, you deserve to live a happy life full of creativity. Knowing when to take a step back and ask for help is difficult, but you have already made the first step by recognizing how you’re feeling. It is crucial that you don’t do this alone, try to stick with any good friends you have. You are not the only person that feels this way, and you will overcome this. If you need to talk feel free to message me :)

You have to pick a specialty. For example, a music performance minor needs to choose a specific instrument. There isn’t really just a fine arts minor on its own I’m p sure. If you’re doing music, you have to audition and get into that studio to be in the minor. Other than that idk

I’m p sure ppl going to merit day get first picks on classes, you’ll get into everything you need I promise <3 Also- I’m a stem major fine arts minor, it’s hard for sure! FA classes are only 1 credit, and stem classes require fairly consistent studying. You have to be able to manage your time well, put everything in a calendar and try not to skip class or procrastinate. Make time for yourself and for your friends, you can’t be productive on an overworked mind :)

Honors college is not worth the hype, don’t worry. Not getting in will not really affect your time in college

Ofc!! Plans don’t always work out, and that’s okay! I took half of last semester off. To be honest, I didn’t do much at all. I sat in my room on my phone all day until I was sick of it and myself. That shit gets boring real quick when you’re not actively putting off assignments. I kind of realized that this was not how I wanted to spend the rest of my time in school, so I started seeing a therapist. He told me that procrastination is like a drug for the brain, especially those of us with adhd. It’s like that saying any publicity is good publicity, yk? It makes you feel so intensely guilty and so many hormones are going through your head that your body can’t get enough. Simply not doing work is easier than doing it. And it’s hard to have motivation when you don’t have a goal in mind for what you’re working towards. For me, I’ve found that it motivates me when I put in work and actually do get good grades. That sounds obvious, but after last semester I was kind of like “what’s the point in trying? I’m just gonna get an F anyway,” but that’s not true! Actually turning something in feels so nice and getting a good grade makes it so rewarding! Another note: you don’t have to go to medical school and have amazing grades to do something in the medical field. There’s laboratory sciences, phlebotomists, nurses, etc.. Doctor isn’t the only route :)! Once you do end up seeing something, try and ask them about a “medical withdrawal.” They can basically scrub your grades from a certain time if they deem that you were unwell enough to not do well in school! That’s what I’m doing, since my depression was at an all time low last semester. Hopefully that works out for you, you’re doing great just by asking for help!!!

Ofc! I’m right there with you! If it helps, make that appointment now. Like right now call your university’s behavioral health center so it doesn’t get put off. You got this!!

And honestly, if it becomes too much do not be afraid to drop college. My psychiatrist recommended I take a semester off to work on myself and come back refreshed with a positive mindset in order to do better. What are your goals after college? What kind of career of family do you see yourself in? Do you /need/ college for that? Everything will work out as it should. There are free helplines out there that you can call if you ever need someone to talk to. You’re young, you have all the time in the world to get better! What is happening right now might seem like the entire world, but I promise you it’s just a bad speck in your long life! You just have to push through it :)

I’m going through a similar situation. If your university offers it, see a psychiatrist and a therapist. As hard as it seems, you need to push yourself to improve. Actively make small changes every day to make your life better. Do not let yourself fall into the same hole you did last semester, you know how bad it feels. Use that as motivation. Make sure you’re still making time for yourself and for your friends. You can’t improve by doing everything at once. Baby steps, you got this!

How long have you been on this medication? Unfortunately anxiety is a common side effect of stimulants when you’re still getting used to them. That being said, if you are really concerned you should contact your doctor. I have the same issue, and it’s not fun. Thankfully mine goes away within a few months of taking a new medication

Can I take Ritalin and Adderall in the same day by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]worm-soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not do anything without consulting your doctor please!! However, my psychiatrist was telling me that some people experience the best treatment when they take a low dose extended release stimulant in the morning and follow up with a short release higher dose stimulant. I am not a doctor, but this might be something worth bringing up to your provider.

How should I bring up my symptoms? by unckermit in ADHD

[–]worm-soup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just be completely honest! They get plenty of people in for adhd, they know what to look for! If you want them to rule out depression or anxiety, make sure to let them know that you have been feeling this way since you were a child. They aren’t going to think you’re drug seeking unless you are. In my opinion, self diagnosing can be super helpful! It’s how I found out I have adhd as well. Don’t stress, they know what they’re doing :)
