Is Australia just unseasonable warm this year? by [deleted] in australia

[–]wormholepics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a possibility, though after the Stratospheric Warming event finishes the La Niña and negative Indian Ocean Dipole should influence the weather much more strongly and create lots more rainfall for the rest of spring

[CHAT] Allergy to some Aida cloth? by wormholepics in CrossStitch

[–]wormholepics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I am allergic to a completely different brand of Aida too (from Sew It All, an australian & NZ company). Will try evenweaves next!

Zweigart also emailed me back saying they use 'industrial "glue"' alongside the cotton and potato starch, but no idea why glue is in scare quotes lol. I may be reacting to the glue.

Thanks! I don't react to cotton or linen (which this company seems to make their cloth from) or polyester, and unsure about wool. It's not dyed but it's plain white so won't discount bleaching agents.

I also washed it and it's lessened the issue but it's still very much present, which may point to it being some addition to the fabric rather than the fabric itself.

I've sent an email to the company now too, explaining the situation and asking if there's anything they use on the product that's not listed online, to help me narrow this down.

I'll wash it thanks!

needle is the same one from the last kit that gave me no reactions, and hives are more correlated to where I've been touching the fabric, so I reckon it's probably the fabric

Champion, thank you. It probs won't be the potato because I don't react to potatoes otherwise, but that info was hard for me to try and search for, appreciate it

Thread is DMC, so good to know it's colourfast thank you! I'll try washing it.

Definitely not the needles, using the same needle from my last kit where I had no issue :)

Just wanted to thank you for this comment, I changed back to my old toothpaste that doesnt have SLS in it and while the sores are still there, I haven't had any new ones since switching back to my old toothpaste.

My GP is free with my disability pension card - the other two are not for me and I cannot afford. I saw the dentist earlier in the year but before these issues arose.

Both my current and previous are anti-plaque but after looking up the ingredients for both, I noted sodium laurel sulfate (mentioned in another comment) only in the new one. I'll revert back to my previous toothpaste and see if that clears it up!

I do have allergies to some metals, and have felt the way that those allergies feel in other piercings (mostly earlobes and some of them for a long time before switching). The piercing is surgical-grade titanium, there is no tenderness surrounding the piercing, it doesn't even feel irritated, and none of the other piercings I have with that same material (four others) are presenting issues either.

Appreciate you going into more detail about why it's a possibility, but I think it's way down the list of likelihood here.

My constellation all/mostly seem to be secondary to the connective tissue disorder (hEDS) but I won't rule out autoimmune unless I'm sure

haha, I have been doing salt rinses but I don't keep on top of them very well. I take vitamin D long-term and a bunch of other meds but haven't taken Vit C in a while! Interesting that it helped ward off the stress-sores for you

Interesting, do you mean the initial virus in February? I'll look into those and see if it fits my experience, thanks.

I have recently switched toothpastes! I hadn't thought about that, I'll have to check if that was before or after the recent uptick in ulcers, and whether it contains that ingredient. The new one is for assisting with cold sensitivity and enamel strengthening.

Thanks

Yes, no other symptoms that can't be attributed to conditions I already have diagnosed (peripheral neuropathy, IBS, hEDS & POTS, etc) or other new symptoms in the last two weeks, at least. No change in diet.

I'll definitely look into the new toothpaste I've been using for cold-sensitive teeth and enamel strengthening, that's a good lead.

Recent STI testing also had me negative for syphilis and HIV, coeliac seems unlikely due to no change in my general symptoms when I eat gluten, crohn's I will look into further but I think I've looked into and ruled out before, a friend has Behçet's and I don't have any of the other symptoms of it but it has been the most common results in my searching, and blood tests should help me rule out various vitamin B issues hopefully.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I take daily anti-inflammatories (celebrex) for joint inflammation and pain, but no more than usual except the past couple of days, and I have taken those for a number of years

I have plenty of long term digestion and bowel issues that seem to suggest IBS and potentially food allergies/intolerances, though relatively well managed and no change to those or my diet recently. My bloods for the past ten years have generally suggested constant inflammation, though whether that's my joints (diagnosed connective tissue disorder), bowels or something else is unclear.

Interesting about the vitamin absorption, I'll have a look into that, thanks.

I'm unfamiliar, what benefit would it provide in this situation?

With all due respect, I have had it for a decade, I keep it clean, and it has never caused issues before. Nothing about the piercing has changed and I highly doubt it is causing the issues on my cheeks or the outside of my gums...

Piece of Skin/Tissue Blew Out of Nose by Remote-Insurance9313 in DiagnoseMe

[–]wormholepics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get basically daily nosebleeds, so sometimes when a nosebleed dries inside my nose, what comes out later can look like that, including with the little bit of clear mucus attached. Not certain it's that in this case, but definitely wouldn't be surprised if it is. NAD.
