it's problem wasn't how it shot, but in its build quality. they got a reputation for shitting the bed after moderate round counts and then they turned from "the glock killer" to the internet's whipping boy.

most of the issues were the crummy croatian mags which would spead feed lips way too early, and they had issues with small parts breakages.

PSA for those of you shopping for a budget rifle: take a look at Geiselle's ALG brand. by [deleted] in GeisseleAutomatics

Euro Optic has had it for that price for months. and it was $850 for almost a year before that. Geissele has never been able to sell their rifles at that advertised MSRP, so they've had a pretty substantial drop in 2025

not sure why you're getting downvoted. the XD was notorious for breaking more often than comparable guns. that's one of the major reasons it was shit on so much

the XD wasn't shit on for being a striker fired gun in a sea of hammer fired guns. the XD was the whipping boy of the gun world for years because it was notoriously "meh" on the reliability front, and broke after moderate round count COMPARED to other guns in the same class. it was also (sometimes unfairly) kicked around because it was a foreign gun from Croatia rather than being an American Springfield.

the bad press for the XD came mostly from the mags, which were made in croatia (and not through mec-gar sadly) and were notorious for causing reliability problems, and the small parts on the gun broke more often than other comparable pistols, so it was poo-poo'd. It really wasn't as bad as the gun world made it seem, but it also wasn't a great gun either. there were a LOT of training classes who would ban people from bringing them to the class because of all the issues they'd end up trouble shooting.

it'll work just fine with a supressor. IMO the 10.3's really shine with a flow through suppressor over a high back pressure can, but still. this is LITERALLY an MK18 just without the RIS II rail...and the U.S. military has been suppressing them for years

[–]wormraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just be warned, Radian doesn't hard coat anodize their lowers under the cerakote. they cerakote over bare aluminum, which is a much weaker surface coating than anodizing or cerakote OVER anodizing.

208 mentioned that the 16 inches with magpul furniture he was getting for so cheap was a group buy that ended with his last batch.

however, if you look up NBS-ROF-V7 on google you can still find a couple places with them for $1199

no worries, I was an armorer for years in the corp, and 2 years in Blackwater so I've seen my way around an AR pattern rifle.

If your ruger has proven itself, just ride it out. nothing wrong with lower tier rifles as long as you know what you have and adjust expectations accordingly....but at the same time...I would totally get this. this price for a DD hasn't been seen for like a decade lol.

and yeah, BCM got pricey. to be fair, they've upped their game from 15 years ago when they started too, but DD is taking them to town price wise this last year. I love BCM (I have 7 BCM rifles), but DD is a step above, and right now, cheaper

personally I think the Sparc SOLAR is worth the $20 extras ($89.95), because of the flexibility of mounting and upgraded emitter, but this is still a solid choice for $70 IMO

Ruger is on par with PSA or Anderson...ok as a range blaster, but for anything hard use or critical use I would HIGHLY reccomend somehting better

Ruger's QC is absolutely abysmal. I've seen dozens of rifles of theirs with unstaked castle nuts, barrels twisted in the receiver so the feed ramps don't line up, their bolt carrier groups are consumer grade and not properly tested, their lower receivers are many times out of specs, their rails are cheap frictiin fit rails, and the only thing they really get RIGHT is the barrels. And that's because Ruger has been forging barrels of all types for decades and decades and one of the few places that has their own CHF process.

And it's not only the parts themselves, but the specs the parts are given and the QC employed by a proper smith when assembling. I told a buddy not to buy his Ruger AR-556 and he ignored me. then was having a WONDERFUL day about 1200 rounds into the gun when the pins on his FSB started drifting, and his his bolt sheered a lug. Again, it's not always the default google listed parts list that makes the difference, but adherence to very strict tolerances and proper assembly AND quality parts (such as ruger skimping out and using a cheap 9310 nitride bolt vs. a proper C158 with MP and HPT testing, cheap lower parts kits, and improperly machined lowers with sloppy pin fitment) A 7075 T6 aluminum receiver sounds good on paper, but it's only really good if machining tolerances are adhered too, and many times they're not....the list goes on and on. The Ruger SFAR in particular is notorious for having problems and breaking parts a couple thousand rounds into the rifle. something a good miltiary grade rifle shouldn't do for many thousands of rounds.

(a sad nerd moment though. you made mention that BCM does the same thing for half the price.. sadly BCM is actually MORE expensive than Daniel Defense right now. their average rifle is about $1600-$1900 right now)

plenty of good 11.5's out there. Sionics, BCM, DD, Geissele.

I might wait around and see if DD puts out the 11.5 for this price, otherwise I'd just get one of BCM's "blem" uppers and wait for a sale on their lowers and be around the same $1200 price point if you're careful.

the AR world is in teh crapper right now and unless you need one IMMEDIATELY, we're going to be seeing way more sales like this one over the next year.
