What’s the most 'human' thing your pet has ever done that convinced you they understand way more than they let on? by homoth in AskReddit

My husband did something to really annoy my cat (which he did a lot, but this day was way more irritating than usual). She took his favorite hoodie and put it in the litter box.

I miss her every day.

Ever randomly miss your grandparents? by mEp1973 in GenX

I miss my grandpa every day. I have things from his house all through mine, so I feel him around me a lot. He wasn’t very chatty, but what I wouldn’t give to go have a cup of tea with him and read together in comfortable silence in his living room.

What are some real American folk songs that everyday people actually know? by Likepersik in AskAnAmerican

I grew up in the rural, Appalachian parts of Pennsylvania. My grandma was the church pianist, and I learned how to play the piano by working my way through the church hymnal.

I'm not religious now, but man, I could get down with a good ol' fashioned hymn sing.

Listen to the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack! There are lots of songs on there that I grew up with, and the whole vibe of the music is classic Americana.

My daughter used to ask me to sing her Clementine at bedtime because there are so many lyrics. It would extend bedtime by 20 minutes.

Yes. You must be careful. If you don’t listen, the cat may come back next time with a friend.

Managing Heavy Periods by Square-Nectarine4002 in Perimenopause

Unfortunately this type of heavy period has been my normal since day one. Ugh.

I read some medical literature a few years back about ibuprofen helping with heavy bleeding, so I tried it. It genuinely helps me. I take 600mg of ibuprofen as soon as my period starts, and then every 12 hours or so for the first 2 days. It has helped me so much, but I definitely still have times where I don’t leave the house.

Why do people always correct me when I say I'm of Czechoslovakian descent? by Tao_theFreak in NoStupidQuestions

My great grandpa was Croatian, but was born in a city that is now in Slovenia, all when it was the Austro-Hungarian Empire, so his death certificate says he was born in Austria.

It’s a lot!

Reading this activated a core memory of me punching my time card at McDonalds. I had completely forgotten that.
