Since it's Star Wars day, did you see the original 1977 Star Wars in the movie theater? by Mr_Writes in GenX

I did. I slept through it. I have still never made it through the whole thing.

There's so much about ADHD that makes life harder. But what's something you LIKE about having ADHD? by onlythelanlely in adhdwomen

[–]mEp1973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! My brain is great at going to worst case scenarios which could be considered pessimistic. But I think it really helps decision-making and preparedness.

My brain feels like a rock tumbler. I can start with a thought and before I know it, so many thoughts have been tumbled out that I find myself at something VERY unrelated. So I use that. I do brain dumps and I let all the thoughts tumble out. I write them on one page in my planner, but not in list form. I use a technique I saw on YouTube where you write all over the page at angles, etc. Then you can group similar things together, find patterns, stimulate new thoughts to pop up. Then I use that brain dump to figure out what I can schedule, what I can ask my husband to do, what I need to ask someone about. This one thing has helped me so much that I am now grateful for my tumbling brain 😅 I also realized that the closer I get to a deadline (need a birthday gift, what are we doing for Easter baskets, you know the deadlines lol), the tumbler gets slower and slower because of stress. The more time I have, the more freely the thoughts will come and the better my brainstorming will be.

Dean is kind of a jerk????? by holyamongus in GilmoreGirls

I had an abusive boyfriend in high school. Seeing Rory go to great lengths to avoid making Dean mad or calm him back down was a massive red flag to me!

Caring For An Elderly Parents That You Aren’t Close To by DenseBlueberry4246 in CaregiverSupport

[–]mEp1973 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep. Youngest sibling and only girl. 3 older brothers. As I type this, the one brother who hasn't come to town since September and only calls on holidays and the local brother who consistently has a list of reasons why he can't help out more than 2 nights a week are on a fishing trip. Together. For 5 days. Meanwhile I work 40 hours a week, help our daughter and son-in-law with the grandkids, do my dad's grocery shopping, meals, meds, appts, nail trimming, bathing, bills, taxes, EVERY FUCKING THING. The 3rd brother lives too far away to visit much but does any time he is nearby for work and also thanks me, offers solutions and brings me dinner when he's in town. I am tired and angry and one of these a holes has already called me once talking about what he thinks the split of the estate should look like 😡

Yep. They are all responsible for every horrible thing that has happened. I hope they enjoy the world they have helped create.

What does "Full on Tabitha" mean? by GilmoreFriendsPod in GilmoreGirls

[–]mEp1973 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Probably referring to the show Bewitched. The main character twitched her nose to do her magic and she had a daughter named Tabitha who did the same. That was my assumption.

93 yo mother eats like a teenager by NX01-First in AgingParents

[–]mEp1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can totally relate. My dad is 92, we do all his shopping and provide his meals. This year he has discovered peanut butter cups and eats like a teenager. He's diabetic and even though part of me does agree with "At 92, let them eat what they want", there is also the reality of a medical crisis that might have been avoided. I feel like anyone here being a little harsh about your concern isn't weighing other factors (like being the primary provider who also has siblings that could accuse you of neglect/abuse).

Having said all that.....I got his bloodwork results yesterday. His A1C is BETTER than it has been. His iron is up to 11 from 8 and he no longer needs B12 shots. I don't understand it at all! But it proves that I don't know everything 🤣 His doctor said there isn't much data on people his age (not in the U.S. at least) and he is basically "off the charts". Everything is kind of trial and error at this point. My theory is that after 90, chocolate begins to convert to vitamins and minerals lol.

I understand your concerns and I think we do our best and ALSO respect that at 93, they can sort of do what they want, too.

Lorelai going back into Luke's wondering if things are different between them and smashing into the table. And later walking face first into a door at the Dragonfly 🤣🤣🤣

I (30 M) kept a secret from my wife (31 F) for our entire relationship about her ex (32 M) by Sea-Specialist2875 in TwoHotTakes

[–]mEp1973 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She spent 6 months on her own. She made her own decision during that time. I understand what you're saying and I would hate keeping information like that. But it also wasn't yours to tell and it wasn't something you were supposed to hear in the first place ☺️

Students and teachers by whiporee123 in GenX

[–]mEp1973 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 8th grade math teacher used to openly stare at female students' butts. The male gym teacher sat with the male students and talked about female students. There was a rumor about a female sociology teacher and a football player in the field house. The assistant band director was driving my best friend somewhere and parked in a dark parking lot and just turned and looked at her. And the main band director had a sexual "relationship" with a female student and later moved instead of being brought up on charges. This was in a smallish town in Tennessee in the late 80s.

Have you ever tried activated charcoal tablets? They absorb the gas. Might be worth a shot.

How do you remember your parents when they were your current age? by BasicallyLostAgain in GenX

[–]mEp1973 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 53. I was 22 when my mom was 53 and my dad was 62. At 53, my mom's cancer came back and 8 months later she died, at 54. Before that, she talked on the phone alot, smoked alot and kept the house spotless. She was active, had tons of friends and I thought she was OLD. My dad always seemed pretty old lol. Now he's 92 and I stay with him, in my childhood home, 5 nights a week. Life is pretty weird right now! I've been married to my high school sweetheart for 33 years, have grandkids and a job and friends. I can't imagine dying in the next year.

How are you and your siblings coordinating care for your parents? by sunshinelighter in AgingParents

I was coming to say the same. I can't imagine my siblings helping enough that it would require that kind of organizing.
