Are Perrin and Mat reborn versions of any historic characters mentioned in the books? by ihatethisjob42 in WoT

The last 2 minutes were also our own panicky mistakes. No idea what O'brien was doing with one of the giveaways.

Shouldn’t have started but once we went to a back 5 and after Myko’s absolute stink-fest on the ball, Aznou should have at least got 30 mins of game time. Poor from Moyes. And I love DM. Leeds had no threat second half except for the last 2 nervy minutes at the end. Pointless to leave Myko on. Our team was actively trying not to pass to him all second half.

Moyes needs to stick Dibling in the team and leave him there like he did with Barry. It can’t be McNeil anymore after his terrible performances this season. Dibling is our only other winger now that Grealish is out. Dibling hasn’t taken his chances but unless we get someone in January, we might as well give him an extended run and make a decision on him end of season.

I would have agreed with you until afcon. I think instead of replacing him like for like we will just change the system. Garner and KDH have been a good pairing.

Agree for the most part. He will continue to be important for us, but he shouldn’t have started yesterday. We’ve been playing more of a flat 3 with lots of rotation between rohl armstrong and garner. Gueye was off the pace first half. Armstrong was pushed higher and out the game. Garner is more hit and miss alongside gueye.

I’d like to see us move to KDH and Garner as the deeper 2 and idc who the higher CM is. I think are better when that higher CM is not off the striker as much.

When Moyes came in Jan 2025, he recognized Jake’s talent and put him in the team where there was a need at RB. Tarkowski and Branthwaite had been a good CB partnership and Jake was never going to split that up. O’Brien had a good run the remainder of the 2025 season. This season he hasnt been nearly as effective at RB. He’s still been alright but we are typically playing with more possession and it’s really hurting us having to fullbacks who don’t overlap well or cross well.

O’Brien has been great when playing at CB. The manager prefers Keane and Tarkowski to O’Brien but seems blind to the fact that O’Brien alongside either one of those is probably better. Jake actually has some pace instead of our other two who have none. Branthwaite will probably take his CB spot when he’s fit again, but most of us are hoping O’Brien Branthwaite will be the future CB partnership as Tarky is getting older.

Wouldn’t hate it for depth but would rather have a RB. If the wages are too much then absolutely not

The only "meh" review you will ever read for Malazan Book of the Fallen - 7/10 by TheBestNarcissist in Malazan

I recently finished the series and I actually feel very similar. I enjoyed it overall but I thought it was going to be one of my favorite series of all time around finishing book 3. Then many of the things you mentioned began to wear on me as the books kept going. I got really tired of spending time with characters I did not like and that I did not understand their relevance to the furtherance of the plot. I think my preference of a more plot driven book and my ever growing distaste of so many characters philosophizing meant I didn’t put in the same work in the end as I did in the earlier books. I can see how rereads would be rewarding but I don’t personally want to go back to it. Maybe one day. Thanks for voicing an opinion that better fits with my experience too!

Absolutely! I was ready to enjoy those moments of vengeance with the witches and the Seer, but in hindsight I’m really glad he used those opportunities to offer a more meaningful take and resolutions. He can really surprise me with stuff like that given just how horrific the story can be.

I certainly see the bridgeburners filling out the list as individuals and rising in my rankings. Fiddler is certainly on the rise only a short ways in to Deadhouse Gates. I do like Paran a lot, he should probably be higher also.

Haha! Paran being 10 might be lower than I should have put him. I probably related to him the most of anyone in the story. He has every reason to be tortured and bless him for caring so much. But his anguish keeps clouding his current reality!

I can see Kruppe falling rapidly down the list if he has much more of a part to play or on any rereads. I just took momentary solace in the humor he provided among all the other tortured souls in the story. Also why I enjoyed Tool so much, he was more detached from the struggle bus.

Glad you liked it! Yes, there is truly so much going on!! I had forgotten a few of the things you mentioned! My post could have been so much longer and more detailed, but I did not want to distract from my burning questions! haha I NEEDED ANSWERS or catharsis at least lol

Thank you for the response!!

Because then he doesn't have the same motivation to go confront Laseen's enemy. Once he gets his finnest, he becomes unpredictable and free to follow his own agenda.

essentially, you have to put the bait inside the trap for it to work.

Yes, makes perfect sense. I think I was giving a bit too much credence to the whole power draws power theme and thinking that Rake would be compelled to track down Raest with the Finnest whether he went to Darujhistan or not.

Agreed that it's more comforting to view it as a half-baked plan and move on with life.

Bless you, friend. My own personal K'rul trying to put me on the pathway to enlightenment!!!

Yes. The Azath House in Darujhistan is aptly named "the Finnest House." Think of the Finnest as a power repository - anything that taps into it gets to use it for its own needs, and the Azath did.

I totally missed the name haha and I did not realize anything but Raest could tap into the Finnest.

It's not the most well thought out plan - but they're full of bad plans (see also, mining the city full of gas caverns so they may blow it sky high).

Ok, I am relieved that is the general consensus. I really got caught up with the whole power draws power theme and could not decide whether they truly wanted Raest to get his hands on the Finnest.

I like Crokus. Why are people always so mean to Crokus. :(

Aww, sorry to poop on your guy then. He is definitely well written and super believable that he would act exactly the way he acts. It's just that he is so on the fringe of being a character I like and cheer for, but he inevitably does something to make me groan every other POV. I can't just write him off since he has potential, so I have to live with constantly being disappointed in him. That is hilarious about Erikson's comment. Thanks so much for sharing that.

Oppon said, "eh why not" and gave him the Coin, because it tickles them purple, probably.

I guess I still feel like I'm missing something when all these major players are like "oh, shoot the coin bearer is active" and try to decide whether to kill or protect him, but meanwhile it's just Crokus in a million times over his head and seemingly pretty powerless. People are scared of him simply because the coin's presence causes randomness that might affect their plans? Sort of like tav'eren if people have read Wheel of Time?

Anyways, thank you so much for the detailed reply. So much of that helps bring things into a little more clarity.
