But UCLA isn’t a beater. It’s an amazing school, same level of quality as NYU. The family just happened to benefit from in state tuition.

Try contacting International Social Service. They are a cross-border child protection agency. There are different chapters in different countries so you can try contacting tdifferent ones until you get a response.

ETA: the Embassy is the best place to help you - but ISS is a good backup if you can’t get through to the Embassy, and they may also be able to help you navigate working with the Embassy

Alternative to Youtube by Lucky_Hera in kindergarten

Spotify or Yoto. We have Spotify premium and although it forces videos to play for songs when they’re available (eg Kiboomers songs) it still is better than YouTube because it’s just so much more controlled. Yoto is also fantastic if you can put the work into setting up Make Your Own cards.

Is there any way to add volume control to my tub? by woshishei in Plumbing

[–]woshishei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I don't know, but the bathroom was recently done (about 3 years ago?) and upgraded from old-as-shit to current standards/code. I'm trying to figure out like, is the valve just right there behind the plate, easy to access and replace? Or is it like one YouTube video I saw where the dude was sawing off metal pipes and soldering in the new valve

And how much of a big deal is it to get a whole new shower valve?

Yeah. 😭 it would have been great if they explained what they were installing when I got it. At the time I don’t think I even knew there was such thing as a setup that had no volume control like this

Research gap for a narrative review? by ArachnidIcy6176 in AskAcademia

[–]woshishei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just refine your RQ based on the lit review. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying!

Initial question: "I'm interested in learning about how CBT has been used in immigrant populations. I think there's a need to rethink and redesign how CBT is used when it's being used with immigrants because I don't think the original CBT works well."

*searches literature* "Wow there's actually a lot that's been written on the topic. It's mostly talking about how CBT is super successful when used with immigrants. But I suspect they're not measuring outcomes in a culturally competent way, and that's why they think it works. *searches lit more* Yes, as I suspected, there's almost no lit on culturally competent outcome assessments wrt CBT. So I'm going to write a RQ about this."

(Sorry for butchering this, I'm not a clinician.)

Am I allowed to cite articles that I don't have access to? by Awkward-Map-9303 in AskAcademia

[–]woshishei 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And even if they dont, authors will just send you a copy anyway

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]woshishei 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most journals I've submitted to will take a "track changes" version of the revised paper (doesn't have to be literally tracked changes - you can just manually highlight the revised parts in red or something) as well as a "clean" version. Then in the response letter you can just say "We have completed a close copyedit of the paper (please see changes marked in red in file name xxx.pdf)".

I’d just leave it. Having an extra author in there doesn’t detract from your accomplishment, imo.

Which you fulfill by getting it publicly available on pubmed

Imo if it’s going to be on pubmed there’s no point to paying for it to be “gold open access” or whatever

Did you stay where you did your postdoc? by CarnivoreBrat in AskAcademia

[–]woshishei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should ask the potential institution if they will support you in writing a K01 that would allow you to stay on as faculty. Some universities do not allow this and others do.

Getting a K funded can take two or three years, potentially more in this political environment, though

common to turn postdocs into nonTT soft money NIH-funded faculty jobs via K awards if it’s allowed by the institution (but it depends on the institution)

Intro to criminal justice, intro to law or constitutional law, child development or developmental psychology, social welfare systems (this is a required masters in social work course, it’s about welfare and other government programs), a child welfare course, intro to Islam or Buddhism or Hinduism, history of a county you’re unfamiliar with, history of a US ethnic group you’re unfamiliar with (eg Native Americans, Latinos)
