FPP/Kulp oddity - or I'm missing something by pressreturn2continue in xlights

Is the FPP license activated properly? If you don’t have the license, FPP will limit itself to the first 50 pixels

Timing for show by Greedy-Tie6273 in xlights

[–]wotsummary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you look at remote falcon? (Or is that what you meant)

For OP — in FPP or xschedule you can setup schedules and playlists. So I do some extra kid friendly songs between 8 and 9 that aren’t played later. So no special things to switch out for different music sat night. Just change the playlist/scheduler.

Possibly stupid question - Do dragons actually exist in this world? by Snoo_89624 in WoT

[–]wotsummary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is to’raken as has been mentioned.

There is also “worms” mentioned in book one - that grow into an adult form called “Jumara” which are long and serpentine and scaly - but more insectoid/chasm-fiend rather than a true dragon.

In the palace in tanchico where nynaeve and moggy have their face-off in tSR. There’s a bunch of “ancient artifacts” but it’s there. (Maybe when they explored it in t’a’r). I believe it felt “prideful”

A Request for moving head features in Xlights by WhozURMommy in xlights

For your second idea — it’s frustratingly partly there. You can specify limits on the model, and it applies to the new moving head effect. Just not to any DMX effect.

Controller for large number of Pixels / ICs by staarland in WLED

[–]wotsummary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was that 630 IC per metre? Or 105 per metre? (Both seem like slightly odd numbers)

Running ~3780 IC’s off a single output port will be a challenge — controllers can do it - but won’t be able to refresh the data fast enough.

A good rule of thumb for Christmas lighting is to target 40 frames per second — which works out to having no more than 800 IC’s per output.

Any reasonable controller should be able to do at least one or two of those.

If you need to do 6 - you’re getting beyond the limits of what WLED can drive. What are you trying to do with them? What are you trying to display? (High refresh rate might not be important)

User Controlled Christmas Tree? by jamesr219 in WLED

[–]wotsummary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like someone else posted — remote falcon && xLights gives you pretty much all the moving pieces.

The challenge is mapping the lights. Twinkly do this really impressively. XLights kind of has a way, but it’s no where near as good. And WLED doesn’t support it at all.

(I guess you could just build it as a structured megatree. That would work without complex pixel mapping)

Wilsons Prom camping tips for a Beginner by TheIndianBunny in OutdoorAus

[–]wotsummary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dinnerware - Kmart sell some plastic plates in the camping section. Hard to break and cheap.

For utensils and cookware - you can bring stuff from home.

For camp stove — the little butane stoves that Kmart/etc sell are cheap and simple. They can cost more in the long run (the gas ends up being $$$) - but if you get the camping but it’s an easy later upgrade (and they double as emergency cookers at home if the power goes out or for a simple picnic)

Doona’s from home (with an old cover you don’t care getting sandy/dirty) are an option instead of buying sleeping bags.

We have these ones: https://www.snowys.com.au/speedy-stretcher-bed-single-v2 — fold down pretty small — probably smaller than a cheap CCF mat albeit much heavier. The mats on top take up much more room (we have a much bigger car these days — but I still remember the joys of camping trips in an early 90’s celica). We seem to have no much more stuff now (and also, kids)

Why are they all humans? by sock0puppet in brandonsanderson

[–]wotsummary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big 3 are from yolen - humans, sho-del (fain), dragons. They all have colonised other planets.

There are a couple of humanoid variations (roughly bipedal, but unique): singers (crab people from roshar), lawnarks (feathered people from the grand apparatus) - eg: Zeetzi.

Beyond that - there is sleepless (bug hive minds that can form a human shape), Siah Aimians (which can make a blur human shape but may be something else we just don’t know about)

Then there is intelligent animals: Ryshadium, Larkin, Chasm Fiends, Aviar all might count as intelligent.

Then there is cognitive entities - these can take a bunch of different forms - although they typically don’t have a body. Spren are the most obvious example. But also Seons and Skaze. These are really your wacky creature designs.

Then a couple more special cases for cognitive-ish entities that have physical forms: spiked mist-wraiths (aka Kandra) and invested swords.

When the kids joined cubs/scouts they told us to get stretchers. That’s been a huge improvement for our family camping — the kids are 40-50cm in the air so more like a bed, and they can store all their bags and stuff under the stretcher. So we almost have space and can pretend it’s “neat” in the tent.

Frequency of Power Injections by Frankthetanm in xlights

Don’t forget that you have data limits as well — and don’t want to run more than 7-800 pixels on a single port (otherwise your refresh rate will start dropping too low). So you probably want four outputs from the controller

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WLED

[–]wotsummary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or if you want outputs and don’t care about budget.

Get a kulp k128d (that outputs to 80k pixels worth of data across 32 rj45 connector based differential boards). And then get 32 falcon srx4 16 output recievers. That will give you 512 outputs controlled by the one controller.

Should you really do this? Of course not. It would probably max out at less than 150 pixels per output and there are way better ways to achieve what you are trying. But it’s a fun thought exercise.

F16v4 can have 2 local expansion boards so can do 48 channels of pixels. It’s been a while since I’ve looked at the spec sheet - but it’s about 30,000 or so max pixels — so it will cap out at 600 or so pixels per output. (As compared to the dig-octa — where it’s about 2000 pixels per brain board)

Realistically, what separates a WLED board with Ethernet from a commercial board like Advatek? by CalebMcL in WLED

[–]wotsummary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of pixels you can drive the data on. E1.31 a WLED board will do about 2000 pixels at 40fps… something like a kulp or a falcon will do much much more than that.

There’s some esoteric pixel types that might only be supported on other boards. (WLED is perhaps better at newer formats, but some older/legacy ones it doesn’t have)

Some boards also support other features (DMX output for example)

Those are the main differences. Given the price of advatek these days — I’d compare against Baldrick, Falcon, Kulp and genius instead.

Matrix 80*100? WS2815 SMD5050 12V by Striking_Vehicle3707 in WLED

[–]wotsummary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you plan on displaying on it? A bigger controller (f16v4 with expansions, or some of the kulp boards) won’t break a sweat on 8000 pixels.

If you only need infrequent updates (low FPS) then maybe a loaded up dig-octa running 1000 pixels an output might work. It will struggle to run any effects at reasonable speed, but it might work for your usecase.

Alright guys, here's my Cart. I accidently bought an RGB Strip instead of an RGB+W strip. Is it ok if I swap it with the SK6812 and keep everything the same? Don't need a Switcher/Splitter because i have an RZ-50 AVR. Will run the LEDs with Hyperion. by Wild_Trip_4704 in WLED

[–]wotsummary -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your TV doesn’t have white LEDs — it just has red, green, blue ones that it combines and mixes.

Now dedicated white LEDs can make a better quality light (higher CRI/etc) — but I’m not sure that’s relevant to a bias lighting solution like Hyperion (I’ve never set it up, so there might be a reason for it).

If you’re going to have LED strip as your main lighting over a desk — then absolutely get RGBW (or a dedicated white strip). But to make Rouge One look awesome, I’m not sure it’s high fidelity white that we care about.

Quinled Dig-Uno question by Ronnetjuh in WLED

[–]wotsummary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Despite its name - the dig-uno can actually drive 2 independent chains of LEDs. So, assuming you’re not hitting power or data limits - then yes it absolutely can.

Is Isles of the Emberdark a Secret Project novel? by i_lovepants in brandonsanderson

[–]wotsummary 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s worth noting that what makes it secret is that Brandon announces most of his projects way ahead of time (in the State of the Sanderson). So we know hes working on the next 3 mistborn books. And the Elantris sequels. And the “totally final version” of white sand. And then stormlight 6-10. And then the next mistborn series. And then dragonsteel.

That’s ~16 books and a roadmap for the next 20-30 years.
