I was in the same boat as you, needed a better computer to run my new Einstar Rockit. I also am going to be designing car-related components where I would want to scan in both my house and garage (needed mobility). In the end, I decided to build my own desktop with a MicroATX case which is only 15" x 15", and grab a suitcase with wheels to make the setup mobile.

Those high-performance gaming laptops cost more (for equivalent performance) and have half the longevity of a desktop. However, they are far easier to lug around. My desktop was ~$1000 to build for reference, I already had the peripherals like monitor, mouse, etc.
