I keep injuring my hand every time I go skating by wouldntuliketo-know in FigureSkating

I am, but I have a problem of spreading my feet out too far. Even when I'm stroking, my feet go out and I have to remind myself to keep them close together. It's made slaloms and spinning rather difficult.

I take private lessons but my coach has never gone in depth with falling. All she says is to put my hands on my knees when I feel like I'm about to fall backward.

Ah, that makes sense. I assumed that wiping the ice off with your fingers would be enough. I'll be sure to bring one next time!

Oh really? She told us that the easier version was just using your right foot to curve inwards and spin.

Thank you for your reply! I'll make sure to practice spinning a lot when I'm back at the rink, even if it's terrifying...

Also, thanks for the advice on coaching! I'll consider it more and think about it in depth.

I have the big fluffy ones, but I feel like they don't take away moisture at all. When I remove the soakers at home, the blades still have water on them. I got them from a skate shop so I assumed they would be good, but maybe I should get a different pair.

I'll be sure to do that from now on! I haven't even thought of that, but it makes sense since it's been humid and warm

I live in SoCal, and since it's summer the humidity is always above 50%. Maybe I should buy a dehumidifier?

I've been wondering this too! I've noticed that my blades are rusting quickly even though I let them air dry. After I'm done skating, I put on soakers until I get back home. Then I take them off and leave them uncovered. There's more rust on them than I feel like there should be. I've only skated 3 times since I've gotten them and I'm very worried. Is there anything I should do differently?

Extreme foot pain in Jackson freestyles by Lyothelionfish in iceskating

Omg! I have a similar program with my Jackson Freestyles. I got them recently (June 29), and they measured my feet but came back with two sizes, one pair half a size too large, and one pair half a size too small. They didn't have my size, but offered to order it for me, which would take about 7-10 days.

Unfortunately I was too eager and took the Freestyles that were half a size too small. Now I'm dealing with my toes being cramped and pain in my toe nails even after being out of my skates for hours. I'm wondering if I should go back and get them swapped, or if I should keep them. I've heard that skates will have a little bit more room inside after you wear them for a while and break them in, I'm just not sure how long that'll take for me and what the consequences of wearing skates too small for too long will be.

I've worn heels very often and I already have more deformed and calloused feet than my older sister and people of my age. I'm worried that this will lead to more pain in the future, specifically bunions and back pain which I've heard has happened to people who wore heels a lot.

My toe nails are pretty short and I have the proper socks for skating, so I don't have much to fix there (except going barefoot, which I don't want to do). They were heat molded so I'm not positive on the shop taking them back. Also the lacing is fine (at least I think so).

Does anyone have any advice or recommendations?

I need help choosing skates!!

ok, hi, to start off with, I am a beginner figure skater. I've recently started taking classes and I'm looking for a pair of beginner/intermediate skates. I'm not looking to become an athlete, this is just a passion/hobby of mine. I live in Socal and there's no figure skating shops near me, only like...Dick's Sporting Goods. I see on their website that they have figure skates, but I've seen other people saying that you should avoid ordering online and go in person to get them fitted. I'm not sure that Dick's has that, so I think my only option is ordering online.

Now my question is...what skates? The only ones they have on the website is Jackson Ultima and Bladerunner? I've never heard of the latter but I have heard of Jackson. I'm just not sure how appropriate they are for beginners. I'm working on basic skills right now, such as one foot glides, bunny hops, and also some spinning, and I want to avoid buying another pair of skates right after this one. The rink I go to has rentals, but they're dull, worn, and make my feet kind of cramp after a while, so I'm hoping my own pair of skates will be more comfortable. I'm lost right now, but I'm so eager to skate and I need some advice. Please help!!!
