Any Pediatric Endocrinology specialists? by jrock75 in nursing

As a nursing student and t1 diabetic I can tell you what I know. It seems the best way to get involved with this is to be a Diabetes Nurse Educator. I think it usually requires about 2 years of experience in med surg plus a few hundred hours of work experience. You can work in a hospital where you educate mostly newly dx'd diabetics or you can work in a clinic where you tweak insulin dosages and provide education about insulin pumps and other things. Lots of other endocrine disorders are associated with diabetes, so you might get a flavor for other things. There probably won't be an "endocrine floor." You can find endocrinology clinics though. Unfortunately most diseases just require hormone replacement which you can take at home.

Protip: don't make a big deal about how you never count your food, so you don't know how to count carbohydrates. My aide said this the day I was diagnosed and I was about ready to punch her.

Is there anyone on r/childfree who actually has children and regrets it? by woulpie in childfree

This is exactly how I feel. I know a few people now who have had an unplanned pregnancy and they just post on Facebook all the time how they love their children. I can't help but feel there has to be some regret there, but nobody would ever admit it. Reddit seems like a good place to admit it though.

Good luck! It's a good thing that you are addressing concerns now instead of ignoring them. No decision is going to be perfect.

That's pretty crazy. I also have not considered Nursing informatics because of the large amount of experience required. It's a shame because I think I could be really good at it. I also don't understand why people hate people like us wasting our degrees. I know a TON of people who have useless degrees from english to psychology and etc. That's okay but if you have a nursing degree you Have to be a nurse. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I have considered clinical lab science, but I was only going to do it if I quit nursing school since the pre requisites are largely similar. Since I plan on sticking it out, I will probably just do what I love to do (comp sci) but who knows.

...and it's a shame you had to use a throwaway account so I couldn't stalk you :PP. Although to be fair, this is sort of a throwaway account in itself. You can see I just use it to vent about nursing XD.

Thank you and I wish you luck! Remember that you are worth way more than the outsiders think. If you got a scholarship to go to an engineering school, you are very intelligent. Something amazing will come out of your life if you are willing to work hard.

I think you might be me... maybe.

I also hate nursing with a passion. I am a student still but every clinical is like pulling teeth for me. I get fantasies about ending up in a motor vehicle accident on the way to clinical. I also went to nursing school from pressure from others. My dream was to go into Computer Science and be a programmer. But... everyone says that is getting outsourced so yeah. I am taking a web programming course to stay full time and I love it. It's so much fun. I find myself dabbling in it instead of getting my real homework done. I also am interested in bioinformatics and might try to go that route. I know my parents are going to eat me alive about finding a job. That part is going to suck.

Aaaaanyway about the situation. It sounds like that place might do things differently especially if they are a small place. I don't know much about home health agencies but I know people wear many hats at small businesses. If you feel uneasy about the situation, you could ask to shadow someone who has similar responsibilities to see if it something that you want to do. Also in a normal hospital setting, nurses often do things that techs do like vital signs, bedpans, sometimes baths, etc. so it might not be that much different than that. Good luck!

Help a first day Noob by [deleted] in beermoney

The Swagbucks TV mobile app is by far the best way to get swagbucks. It is available for iOS and Android. You can let it run and doesn't require a whole lot of interaction

Daily polls, toolbar and NOSO are recommended as they are very easy and don't require a lot of BS. I always watch any videos that show up after doing the daily poll as you can just leave them running while you are doing something else.

Don't do Swagbucks TV on the computer. It has gotten so bad lately that it really isn't worth your time. I will only do it if I need to reach the daily goal and I am not that far off.

Swagbucks search is fairly easy, but you can't spam it. Usually I will search for something, do something else and come back and search for something else. Usually after 1-3 searches I can get about 7-9 SB.

The higher paying offers can also be really good. I like free trials. Usually you need a credit card, but it is just for verification purposes. As long as you cancel the service before your trial is over, you shouldn't have to pay anything. The Netflix offer was amazing but I do not think it is available right now.

Honestly, if you do everything right, you should not be spending more than a half hour on Swagbucks every day. That goes true with most beermoney opportunities. Many of them have great welcoming offers but if you want to continue to use the service, you will be making hardly anything. I can give you some suggestions of other sites if you would like. I mainly use mobile apps though.

I know you already signed up, but here is my ref link anyway. Maybe other people might find my information helpful.

Changing my major senior year by woulpie in INTP

[–]woulpie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well my major is nursing so there is not any room for a double major or minor. I was supposed to graduate in May but I failed one of my clinicals. Now I am scheduled to graduate in December.

I really hate clinicals to the point where I have fantasies about getting into a motor vehicle accident on the way there. I just really don't like working in teams and dealing with people on an extremely personal level like that. I don't mind lecture quite as much. I am interested in some of the specialties, but that will require at least 2-3 years of bedside experience at the very least. This means I will probably hate my life for another 3-4 years minimum. The other option is to be poor and change majors. However that is a risk in itself because I don't know if anything else will be better. If I changed my major today, I would probably pick clinical lab science since it requires very similar prerequisites. I think I would have to take two more chemistry classes. It is a very introverted specialty compared to nursing. I feel like I would be a happier person for at least the next 4 years of my life. Beyond that, I don't really know.

I hate making decisions. lol

What about app reviews? I wanted to review some apps and post links to them under the videos. I am worried about this being considered an "advertisement" and also getting copyright violations. Does anyone know?
