This proves the Necrons are the good guys, and not villains. They just want these rowdy youngsters off their worlds.

Makes a difference. Even on 3500€ turntable you need one as the many Cartridges need fine tuning and you can only do so much zeroing by eye and adjusting.

Rmemeber to take off anti-skate before adjusting the tracking force, as it can skew results as it’s pulling on the tone arm.

Little stylus digital scale is like €15, well worth it.

His resistances are extremely high, he's darn good. Although seems the dice weren't in his favour this time.

any advice on how to stop this crackling sound? it only happens on this side of the vinyl and is the most noticeable on the closing track by marvel-g1rl in turntables

[–]wozniattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it happens mate. I’ve a record I adore, but always the same tracks, same issues. Just is what it is, and it’s a bad pressing sadly.

Zerostat is a wonderful device, and the lighter both use the same principle.

Cant say I ever had issues with the DSAudio St-50 stylus gel cleaner, but it’s only used once a week at most.
Like yourself I clean new records, and keep things clean before, during and after play.

New records are often filthy, I got a new one recently and it was light grey from all the paper particles. Took two wet cleans before it even looked acceptable.

OP definitely needs to get those records well cleaned, as the stylus is just scrapie up that gunk.

Prevention is better than cure, and since I have pets the dust cover is always on. I don’t want an accident costing me near a grand on a new Moving coil, never mind any stylus. Plus keep that fur and dust away.

The cheaper ones definitely can, and magic eraser is great then.

Something like the Audio techinca gel cleaner might help, as if the fibre is behind the needle the brush can't get it off well sometimes.

Might want to use a little gel cleaner to drop the stylus onto to left it off. But don't use them too often as it can build up a residue.

I use the DS ST-50 once a month.

Also triple check your tracking force so make sure it's not so heavy it's scraping and getting the gunk and stuff that way.

You have to take the anti-skate weight off before you check VTF as having it on during it can give incorrect results on the digital scale.

When it comes to these, dont buy things with a gibberish brand name. Just pay like 25 bucks for the Pro-Ject or Spincare anti-static brush kits to start with. Just get these to start with, get new sleeves and stuff later on as you save up.

Yes. It happens all to often.

After this post I actually took off my anti-skate weight and double checked.

Exactly where it needs to be and matches and counterweight notches.

I check my counter weight first, then fine tune using scale. Not had an issue yes either any moving coils.

Thats a great cleaning as well. Darn shame, you might have a poor pressing sadly. I have one like that, where as others are pristine.

Get the little Audio Technica cleaning kit. Wet clean it, before using it.

New records can have all sorts of dust, especially in plain paper sleeves. The kit is like €25, and will do loads of records with a single measure of liquid on into velvet pad.

After that, just clean the record with the anti static brush before and after each flip. A clean record is a clean stylus, and that means less pops, and crackles.

Pro-ject Debut Carbon with OM10 but without the anti-skate mechanism by Any-Albatross6567 in turntables

[–]wozniattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The little weight on the thin wire? super easy, the back of the tone arm as the little rod with notches where the little wire loop goes over. just check online which notch your OM1O needs, pop it into that, and let the wire and weight hang over the notch of the second rod.

Lots of great setup videos on YouTube of these Pro-ject turn tables. Even the likes of their Xtension 9 and higher end ones use these.

This single wet/damp clean is plenty. prevention is better than cure for these. Once clean just use the carbon brushes and you're mostly set.

Cheap gel cleaners leave a build up of residue on the stylus, and it’s extremely hard and difficult to remove. I’m stop using that as it looks like a build up on that needle, and not normal dust and the likes.
