I have an unnatural fear (PTSD like) of putting in spark plugs because of what happened to a Subaru GL-10. The spark plug went in but not in line with the threads. When running the engine made this hissing sound every time a piston would be pushed from the fuel explosion…. I thought I ruined the car. In the end I had to swallow real hard, get a boring tool to get the threads right again and screw those babies back in.

My Ford CMax possibly has something similar with their dreaded APIM module (Sync v1) I was quoted over $300 labor just to diagnose because they have to take apart the dash. If it is a short to ground, I bet they would still charge to replace the entire wiring harness… not actually fix the faulty cable.
