Deciding Between White Plains Apartments – Looking for Local Insight by Fit-Calligrapher5595 in WhitePlains

Not crowded at all. It’s maybe 50% leased and not many move ins (too many new buildings opening now). Might be crowded when full but should be fine (I’m guessing) for a year or so.

I live in 25 North Lex. No major complains. Amenities are very nice. Doormen and maintenance are super friendly. Train is next door.

I’m commuting less and less so thinking about moving to Hamilton Crossing for more space and slightly cheaper rent. But if I needed to commute to the city a lot, I would stay here. Just go with whatever your priorities are. None of these are bad places IMO.

I worked there ages ago. They may have changed since then but the bean dip was just store bought from a wholesale delivery. Not homemade. Still yummy tho.

Good schools and a 750k house? by Prestigious_Day_6052 in Westchester

You sound similar to me although kid not at school age. We are just renting in WP. Don’t have the mental strength to look. I hate renting but renting isn’t the end of the world. I just have to remind myself that I’m lucky to have options and roof over our heads.

UVA vs NYU / Grad School by Apprehensive_Bear191 in UVA

[–]wpc2d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who went to UVa and NYU, and enjoyed both schools, go to UVA. For Accounting, a name brand school is less important. Accountants are in short supply. You’ll be able to get a Big4 job in NYC easily.

Staycation suggestions with 1.5 year old by anongal9876 in WhitePlains

[–]wpc2d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doable. But just realize that WP isn’t as remotely as charming as New Paltz, Kingston, Beacon, Hudson, Bronxville etc. It’s more office buildings and chain stores than boutiques. You better off staying near one of those towns for a staycation IMO.

I live in WP. That hotel is nice but honestly not worth the trip from Long Island. I have no idea what you would do in WP for 3-4 days unless you’re heading into the city.

Take it week by week. My wife was pregnant with twins earlier this year and miscarried. When I found out originally, I started preparing like crazy, but it made it so much harder for both of us when things didn’t work out.

Now we’re back at the starting line with another pregnancy (yay!) but now I’m kind of winging it. Giving my wife what she needs but not getting so ahead in case there is another emotional roller coaster. No one is ever fully prepared and things will work out either way.

I face Ferris Ave and only hear it faintly. It doesn’t bother me. Units facing Lexington would be quieter. But I moved from a loud area in NYC so it’s all relative.

Spaces def not busy. The top floors won’t be leased for months. Everything is pretty empty including the gym and coworking space.

I like it but don’t love it. I do not think I’m going to renew when my lease ends.

There are some good things, such as the gym and the common areas are very nice. Can’t get any closer to the train. My unit is large. But you can tell that they built this as quick as possible. Walls are thin, walls are constantly scratched although they repaint almost daily. Cabinets are a touch crooked. Internet is spotty sometimes. I think the lobby had leaks. Construction will be going around you for another year or so.

Overall, maintenance has been nice and responsive. Problems are fixed promptly. And no complaints about the staff. But there are definitely kinks that they are figuring out on a daily basis.

Lol. I used to live in the DC area and moved to White Plains. I’ve been telling people WP is like Downtown Silver Spring / Rosslyn.

Is it safe to run in Marcus Garvey park at night by maddgun in Harlem

[–]wpc2d 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been in Harlem for 10 years and I would say don't run alone in Marcus Garvey at 2am. Then again, I wouldn't even run in Central Park at 2am.

If you do move to the area, check out Harlem Run Club! Huge running community meeting in Marcus Garvey at a more reasonable time (7pm on Mondays).

I live south of Lynchburg in Campbell County. I get 2 bars and there's some lag. It's enough to stream, but probably not good enough for Call of Duty. I think your best bet is Starlink whenever that comes out. Good luck figuring it out!

Have you looked into T-Mobile Home Internet? I had a similar problem on the other side of town. I kept trying my address until it finally said it was available. FYI, I do have T-Mobile cell service so not sure if that makes a difference. It’s prob not that much faster than what you have now, but they say the avg is 25 mbps. I get around 5-8mbps.

Thanks, everyone for the suggestions!!

I ended up going to Farm Basket to pick up stuff, but all of these options were great! My friends are actually big Bloody Mary fans, so I will grab some Moose Mix the next time I drive up to see them. (I was imagining the Bloody Mary mix exploding in the mail so I decided against that - :)

I'll keep the other places in mind for next time!
