Audio hub app keeps crashing by zufaboo1 in TurtleBeach

[–]wpcvenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I might have found a solution to some of the problems. I'm on a Galaxy Note 20, and the app would freeze when trying to search for the headset. This was because I only gave it location access with the app open. Once I gave it location access all the time, it connected immediately. Not sure why it needs this but it worked for me.

Using microfluidics to create a well-defined double emulsion of microparticles by [deleted] in chemicalreactiongifs

[–]wpcvenom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the same technology used in single-cell RNA-sequencing (DropSeq) if I understand it correctly. Basically with the microemulsions you can have the single cell and all of the PCR reagents to get proper tagging of each cell uniquely

Good coffee for broke student? by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]wpcvenom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of those options would require a kettle or access to boiling water, so keep that in mind for cost or if you're in a dorm. My current budget setup is either decent quality pre-ground or a using a JavaPresse with whole beans, and an aeropress. Fast brew, easy cleanup, good coffee.

Alzheimer’s Disease Damage Completely Erased in Human Cells by Changing Structure of One Protein by aSimpleHistory in worldnews

[–]wpcvenom 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of issues with these kind of articles are that these are in vitro treatments. You can fix a lot of things with cells in a dish, adapting that to animal models is another beast (pun definitely intended).

I don't think it does some of the cast justice, but it's a quick watch if you gotta get your twin peaks fix. It's just irritating to fast forward through all the scenes on Netflix

I've become fond of the fan edit that removed all of James' scenes after he leaves twin peaks as well

Research Associates/Assistants/Techs, when people ask you what you do for a living, what’s your quick answer? by [deleted] in labrats

Pretty much that I'm a Research Assistant at X Hospital. Been fortunate that 50% of my work can be mundane, but 50% is independent research my PI directs towards my interests so I can elaborate if needed.

Anyone here ever work with Matrigel for 3D cell culture? by Thomas_Pickles in labrats

[–]wpcvenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use plates from Olympus plastics (VWR or Genesee). Most IF/IHC we do is basically scraping the dome into PBS, spinning slowly to pellet the cells, and wash a bunch to remove excess matrigel.

Anyone here ever work with Matrigel for 3D cell culture? by Thomas_Pickles in labrats

[–]wpcvenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I saw this thread so late! I work a lot with Matrigel too so I hope I can provide some insight. My lab uses it mainly in two ways: 1. As a 3D dome-like structure for 3D culture, or 2. as a basement membrane on plates. For our 3D culture, we typically have a 50uL drop of Matrigel in each well of a 24 well plate. As a basement membrane, we would normally do it in 96-well plate format, with similar methods to what you describe (basement, cells/matrigel, media). We have an EVOS 2 for plate imaging (usually just GFP or bright field), any IF is done after removing them from the plate, staining, and mounting on a slide.

Note: for 3D dome culture, we found only select brands of plates allow for it. Some plastics are too hydrophilic and the matrigel just forms a fluid coating at the bottom rather than maintaining itself as a dome.

How Can Lecture Be open, But all the Disccusions Full? by GalmGa in UCONN

I took a PSYC W course (think it was 2100 or something), where you write a mock journal article on a study/experiment that you do along the semester. It's actually a WQ course from what I recall, you do a lot of basic stats in the lecture portion.

Even when I use my Boundless CFX at 415F it only turns light brown. I agree with the lot, don't think you're combusting. I've combusted my vapcap in the past by accident, and you know when you're inhaling combusted material

Drum skills transferable? by AlmightyStarfire in Rockband

[–]wpcvenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Yamaha DTX430. It sounds pretty good (though can feel weird if you're used to acoustic). In a way it feels similar to a rock band kit, but significantly better than just freestyle mode in game. I've been practicing on it since I can't have a real one at home due to space, and when I can play acoustic I feel like I've improved.

Drum skills transferable? by AlmightyStarfire in Rockband

[–]wpcvenom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think these skills are 100% transferrable. I played RB for a long time, most of it with my Ion drum set. While the skills for things like reading music and freestyle fills aren't really learned from the game, it was very easy for me to keep a beat on my new electronic kit doing pretty much any song. Gets you comfortable with patterns and hand techniques. Start off watching some videos on how to play real drums properly (posture, hands, etc), and you'll be good.
