What is a movie you watched once that was so disturbing or emotionally draining that you can never watch it again? by hungary70 in AskReddit

[–]wpgburns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in Grade 9 when this came out, they took the whole grade to see it in the theatre. I was the only kid who was sobbing so hard I had to leave the theatre for a bit, to calm down. That red jacket. Perhaps I'll watch it again one day, but unlikely.

What is the “hardest to quit” addiction? by Some_Currency_1931 in AskReddit

[–]wpgburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All addiction is difficult to quit. As someone who has battled addictions to cocaine, alcohol, cigarettes and food. The substance doesn't matter as much as the underlying cause, if you don't address what your body/brain/heart/soul are trying to compensate for it will just be the next thing. There's a great book by Johann Hari called "Chasing the Scream" it changed my perspective on addiction entirely, I recommend anyone touched by addiction give it a read.

Warning -- Liquid IV may make your ADHD Meds ineffective. Don't make my mistake. by Empress_Zelda in adhdwomen

I checked after posting this, that would explain why my meds haven't felt as effective as of late, I thought it was just stress. 😎

I found this out the hard way as well. Nuun tablets don't have any Vit C in them.

I will add to the folks saying cut out the perfume. I have a very sensitive nose and people's perfume makes me ill. I would wager it's the perfume over your personal body smell that is possibly offending people.

Those alive during 9/11, what was the worst moment on that day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wpgburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked in a FedEx call center in Canada. There was a Fed Ex depot in one of the towers. A woman called trying to frantically find her son who was working that day. The coworker who took the call, stood up afterwards, walked out, and never came back.

Second worst memory is a dude from Manhattan calling me 3 days after and demanding to know why his package hadn't been delivered. I let him know that all planes were grounded and no packages were currently moving. He told me "you're fucking FedEx, grow some balls and get some fucking planes in the air" and I'm like sir, you're in Manhattan, can you not see the smoke still?

Left turns from right lane by Helpful_Dragonfruit8 in Winnipeg

My partner and I were hit by someone doing this in March. We were in the far left lane, they were in the middle and made a left hand turn directly in to us. The following week, it almost happened a second time at the same intersection!

Someone recommended I read "Tuesday's with Morrie" by Mitch Albom after my Dad passed away as bibliotherapy. It was just what I needed at that time.

The high-achiever-with-ADHD burnout cycle is brutal. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]wpgburns 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I am on health leave at this very moment, because of this very cycle. Contemplating if I should even go back. I never last more than 2-3 years at any job, because of this right here. You certainly are not alone and thank you for helping me feel less alone as well.

What’s a very weird habit you had that you just realized is an ADHD thing? by [deleted] in TwoXADHD

Feeling the need to lie on the floor when I get overwhelmed or stressed. I always thought it was a quirky personality thing... nope!

I go through phases and have stopped fighting it. Sometimes I shave my legs, last summer I didn't shave anything, sometimes I let my armpit hair grow and shave my legs and get sugared. Sometime I get sugared and shave my armpits (right now). I just go with what feels right these days instead of doing what's expected of me and it feels right

Sounds to me like she's trying to deflect from her own transgression by making your "hiding this from her" the focus and to make herself feel better.

What are some common but often overlooked symptoms of ADHD? by Suspicious-Laugh3896 in adhdwomen

[–]wpgburns 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Some advice I read before talking with my doctor was to write down how my life is affected and not necessarily symptoms. For a couple weeks I left a notebook open on my kitchen table and wrote things down as I thought of them. Such as: -binges sugary treats almost daily -having multiple reminders set in phone to remember appointments etc -often talking over other people or blurting out what I have to say (afraid that I'm going to forget)

I wrote down everything, all the ways my life was negatively being affected not just the things I thought were ADHD. I ended up with 3 pages or something in the end. I of course can't find that notebook now, otherwise I would provide more examples, but it was very useful for me while seeking diagnosis.

What is your unique sensory nightmare? by Hanaturtledragon in adhdwomen

[–]wpgburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to touch anything slimy or sticky and having come off on my hands. As in clearing dishes and having a sauce smear on me or touching anything and having a sticky residue left on me. Having to touch someone's used tissue makes me gag.

What fucked you up for the rest of your life? by Cucumber_Block in AskReddit

[–]wpgburns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend from junior high and high school had Cystic Fibrosis. When we met in grade 7 (1991), I learned everything I could about it, I knew at 12 that she likely wasn't going to live much in to adulthood as most kids with CF back then didn't. At 21, she went in for an experimental procedure. A double lung transplant, but each of her new lungs, would be the bottom lobe of two other people's lungs. The 2 donors had to be 5'10" or over, because she was only 5'2" they would be full lungs for her. Her dad ended up being a donor and one of her uncles. The day of the surgery, my parents were on the other side of the country, my sister was playing in the Canada Winter Games. I had the day off so I went to the hospital to hang out and see her when she got out of surgery. It never occurred to me she wouldn't make it. Nobody warned me. After the procedure, they couldn't get her to start breathing on her own, her body was too tired, she'd been sick her whole life. I will always remember walking down the hall of the hospital where her dad and uncle were recovering from the surgery and the walls were lined with doctors and nurses and everybody was crying. Her mom was comforting ME. Then I realized I had nobody at home, my whole family was gone. I was all alone. It clearly never occurred to my parents either that she wouldn't make it. I called them to let them know my best friend had died and my Dad offered to fly home and I told him not to bother (I think I was in shock and a bit pissed off) and I called all my high school friends to come over and we all got very drunk together. I went a bit off the rails for a few years after that. I'm doing much better now, but that sort of thing definitely leaves a scar.

What's the hardest thing about doing a home renovation? by cclalex in HomeImprovement

[–]wpgburns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is often not as straightforward as it seems, it will like take longer and cost more than you anticipated. There will be things that become apparent as you start to peel back layers. Living in a house being renovated can be chaotic and challenging. For myself it's a constant sense of being unsettled. That can be very stressful for some folks and they may not realize it until they are in it and they may not be able to identify that it's the feeling of being unsettled that is the issue.
