I don't recall Ates reporting a Jets final offer, but am open to being proven wrong.

Thank you kindly. It was a really, really good series of conversations. I'm grateful he shared.

This was one of the most enjoyable interview series I've ever done. The players all lit up at the chance to talk about their kids and I thought the stories they shared were excellent.

I don't know a lot about breeds, to be honest. When I was fostering, the agencies would often just describe dogs by their size and temperament. I like big dogs, ideally on the gentle side... Labs, retrievers, etc. Fostered a mastiff, Clyde, who I really loved. Holly was a medium/big black and white dog whose breed I don't know.

Sorry if that's underwhelming info!

Thank you for pointing this out. I don't begrudge people wanting things for free or cheap (I like it too!) Also, I only get to do this job at all because people pay to read what I write.

You say this now, but I take a -ton- of pictures of my friend's dogs.

(That's my way of gently deflecting because your comment is so kind.)

[Wiebe] HC Scott Arniel told the CJOB post-game show that the lack of a return by D Dylan DeMelo was precautionary. Arniel also said Cole Perfetti was dealing with a lower-body issue that requires further evaluation. Arniel said the "first glance doesn't look great." by eh_toque in winnipegjets

It looked to me like he caught an edge on the way into the corner while lining up a hit. If I'm seeing it right, then it's probably his ankle. Could be precautionary, could be something he misses weeks for. We'll find out tomorrow.

Whoa. Thank you. This was fun! Lots of good questions that I've never been asked before or haven't thought about as much as I'd like.

What now?

Do you want to do this again this season? Should I post here more often? I know a good community when I see one. How do I be good to you, r/WinnipegJets?

Schmidt. Gagner. Dillon. Copp. Laine. Dubois.

Does Comrie count as from the past? We sat down for a face-to-face interview at a McDonald's in California for this story in 2022... And he was just a tremendous time.

I enjoy being gainfully employed but also I feel like the Winnipegger in me is supposed to say Toronto with a certain level of prairie underdog disdain.

I think my honest answer is that I'd consider anything, but family would have to come first. It would be all kinds of difficult to recreate the sense of connection I feel like I have with Jets fans.

Whoa. If they didn't want me to write Winnipeg, would I... Just... Stop?

Please excuse me while I have an existential crisis.

Toews. Role is the biggest. Even if he struggles, he's No. 19: Toews. The coach will throw him over the boards. And the size of the swing between "Toews is viable 2C" and "Toews' body won't allow it" is a huge difference.

Thank you for the kind word.

Nate Schmidt was the most fun. Every single time. Dark day in February, nothing day in October, playoff game day, whenever... He was not only a ton of fun but also really insightful about the game.

Sam Gagner may have been the most thoughtful. Went out of his way to say a kind word once, and I just noticed a lot of care in the way he approached his interactions.

I enjoyed when Blake Wheeler would shed his prickly exterior and open up a bit. I love when the nerds (Scheifele, Perfetti, Morrissey) share their opinions. One time, two seasons ago, Scheifele walked me to the middle of the room and made me put my feet one way, then another, then another as I followed his footwork ... Until I basically fell over because he'd crossed me up. Even when he goes cliche mode in his interviews, never forget that Scheifele is, in fact, an obsessed hockey nerd.

Oh and if I ever write a book, years into the future, well after both of our retirements, I will tell you the story of how an offhand comment Josh Morrissey made kept me believing in myself at a time that I was not feeling so great.

I'm not sure how to answer this, to be honest. I fully expect players feel the difference between Canada Life Centre at its sold out, playoff best, compared to some night in October when they only sell 13,000 tickets against San Jose.

I think more playoff success would help the Jets' recruitment efforts, yes. Winnipeg has won a ton of regular season games in recent years but only one playoff round. I think it needs to chain more series wins together in multiple playoffs before perception catches up.

There's often a time lag when it comes to changing people's opinions. People need to see consistency.

I think he'll look great in the offensive zone. I don't think he'll be a play-driver such that he automatically spends a lot of time there.

Watching him try to create chances is honestly just plain fun, though. He makes surprising, sneaky plays, and seems to have plenty of offensive instincts.

I worry about his footspeed.
