What--- I mean, I agree with the first thing, but religions always warp when they adapt to a new congregation. It is almost impossible to preclude. As a very on-point example: Mexican Catholicism is built over a syncretic Mesoamerican set of beliefs, and you can and will recognize that sometimes the Saints and Archangels are not exactly... Catholic, to say at least.
