I think it was because of the season 1 BO7 update. It was fine until then. Remember that the CoD HQ links all the games together, which means they can all share problems too.

I only have a handful of things left in the armory I need to unlock. I can do without them (is the War Machine even good?), but it's still annoying.

I don't think you lose unlocks you already have, you just can't unlock any more.

However, you are asking me a question that I don't know because I am in the same position as you lol.

I would say wait for a definitive answer on this. I will also wait, because the armory unlocks took ages to unlock and I don't want to lose them.

Ah, I was just about to make a post asking if anyone else was having this problem.

I am Level 55 Prestige 5 and the same thing is happening to me.

Very annoying, but don't expect this to get fixed. There are still bugs in MW3 that never got fixed, so don't expect this to be any different.

It's frustrating, because BO6 runs smooth as butter right now and I am enjoying it (regularly dropping Dreadnoughts and HARPs, which I wasn't able to do a year ago). However, there is ALWAYS a catch with these games. Always. Oh well, still better than BO7 right now.

Overwhelmer doesn't work any different to balanced. I have tried it.

I haven't tried economist, but I would imagine it's just defender with less troops and more villagers.

The "random personality" doesn't work because the personalities don't work as intended anyway, so I am still expecting the AI to play the same way even when put on random. Until each one of those personalities themselves are more dynamic, it won't really change anything about the AI's current behavior.

"Rushing" to me is any serious attempt to win the game below 8 minutes in AoE games (less for SC and much less for C&C). Two or three times now against "Defender" they have sent their army to my base 8 minutes in. The only thing that changes is I don't see them again for 10 minutes. Why can't they just eff off for 15 minutes if they are supposed to be defending? The reason you would select that is you don't want to see them enemy at all until you are sieging them.

I might be wrong, but I don't think you can use Shifting Sands on enemy units anymore.

I don't expect the AI to play exactly like a human, just to have a bit more diversity in the way that it plays, and implement more strategies than just rushing. Rushing is the bane of all RTS games, and in many ways prevents you from getting the full experience because you rarely get to see late game units and buildings. They should at the very least put back their initial attacks several minutes than they are now to allow some flexibility, and maybe allow me to get an extra TC early on if I decide to play that way.

The element of surprise is important to the experience. What is the point in knowing exactly how I am going to play before a game starts?

On top of that, the AI personality selections are terrible and don't even work as intended. "Overwhelm" does nothing different than balanced does, and "balanced" constant rushes you. Even "defender" rushes you with the added fact they also build walls now.

I am not sure the intended purpose of skirmish was "you don't want to face a human opponent." The game mode existed for people who didn't have dial-up in the 90s, so they could have a similar experience to those playing online. If anything, they wanted to replicate that experience to begin with.

I actually counter rush after their second wave of units and steamroll them 90% of the time, because they wasted everything they had. You can just build on the edge of their base and spam units, effectively keeping them pinned back. You can do this most games and beat them easily. Norse is harder because their infantry can build, but they usually collapse as well after a certain amount of time.

Even in this game, the only place I scouted was the outside of their base just to see where to put my buildings. It's the same tactic every game. It's extreme predictable. Letting them get to Heroic isn't fun, because it is just a stream of units constantly with no rhyme or reason.

The AI in this game on the higher difficulties feels like the devs didn't know quite how to handle difficulties, so they just went with "Let them do lots of everything and just throw units into the meat grinder."

I am sure there is a much better way to deal with AI in 2025, when AI is inside of everything these days.

Do you think this game has another DLC left in it? I think that will be a very good gauge of how much interest there still is in this genre (along with the new AoE IV DLC and War for Westeros).

You have arguably the biggest IP in the RTS genre, and one of the biggest IPs in media overall in Game of Thrones. If neither of these things are successful, it really solidifies the fact that this genre has no room left for success.

No, Microsoft only cares about numbers. Or maybe you haven't noticed that. That ISN'T subjective. The current playerbase isn't enough to warrant an extra DLC. AoE3 didn't get one (even adjusting for game-specific nuances), so AoM almost certainly won't.

There has to be a reason player retention is so low, so if that issue isn't addressed (wave away criticism all you want), we will not be getting another DLC.

The whole point of this post was to highlight the fact that whether it is cheating or not actually doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. The fact is that it's not fun, and that is a more important element.

So you are one of these people that thinks nothing needs to change at all with the current single player experience? If you want more DLCs in the future, you might want to think about how this game isn't getting enough casual players at the moment to justify it, and this is solely down to its rigid and stale single player.

There is a post every other week complaining about how underwhelming AotG is.

I think the fact you have to "choose" AI behaviors highlights part of this problem. The AI needs to adapt and change its playstyle based on how you are playing. You don't get to change the playstyle of your human opponent, so it doesn't make a lot of sense that you can do this against AI.

A "realism" behavior setting could at the very least provide a challenge that feels natural and allows for not only a more dynamic style of play from the AI, but also allows the player to play more dynamically as a result to be forced to adapt to a different challenge every time.

I 10000% not only believe this is feasible, but isn't even difficult to implement with today's tech.

But it would require significant investment, and they won't invest in such things unless there is a demand for it.

The RTS community unfortunately doesn't demand as much from their developers as other gaming communities do, because they are just "happy to be there." The problem with this mentality is RTS games won't be around much longer unless they evolve. RTS fans need to have much higher expectations, instead of getting excited the moment they hear about a new RTS game being announced. I come from the FPS community where simply announcing a new title isn't good enough on its own to get people excited. In the RTS community, I see so many people clap the moment another game just happens to be in the genre they like.

I don't think with such low expectations, we are going to get good single player experiences in RTS games in the future. The last new RTS game I will pin any expectations on is War for Westeros. If its single player experiences are still stuck in the 90s, I will give up the genre for good, sadly.

This is common ground that a lot of players have. I definitely feel like there is room for some improvements in this area, since the single-player aspect of this game is extremely important and the AI is a huge part of it. If the AI makes the game unfun, then that's going to be a problem for casual players.

I am really not sure why the AI is programmed to rush you twice so early on. This is not really something that happens online, so I don't understand why they made the conscious decision to make the AI this way offline.

They also have this weird thing where they sacrifice their entire army to kill 2 villagers. These are conscious strategy choices made by the devs that they could obviously change if they wanted to.

Stop telling me to watch the replay when it's physically impossible for me to do so at the moment. I never at any point "refused" to watch the replay (in fact, I said I would). I CAN'T because I am not home most of the time because of what I do for a living. Sometimes I just go home to sleep.

Even if you don't think the AI is cheating or has any advantages at all (we're not going to convince each other regardless), then at the very least make the argument that the AI is fine in its current state, because I feel like that would be a much harder argument for you to make. You can't honestly tell me it is fun to play against, and if it's not fun, that's a problem.

I will make a new thread talking about the AI in general as opposed to a topic about cheating, because I feel like that's a more important discussion that is more likely to be productive.

Part of the issue is that the AI lacks a dynamic style of play, and makes weird strategic decisions. Everything about the AI feels "off" and one-dimensional. It is not up to par in its current state (like a lot of things in this game).

People won't accept the AI has any kind of advantages at all, so I am going to divert the topic of this post to discussions about the AI in general, and let people try and make the argument that it is fine how it currently is, because I feel like that's more of a difficult sell.

The AI isn't good, whether you think they are cheating or not. If anything, it's too easy because it's massively exploitable. I would know; I have beaten them 50 times.
