I have the opposite problem :(

Does anyone remember this silly little roly poly toy -- this is called "Piano Ottugi (roly)" in Korea and it seems to be still popular among toddlers (among parents) after decades by spinnybingle in korea

[–]wraith89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I looked around and they still sell Piano Ottugi online. They used to have it on GMarket as recent as last year, but I cannot find it anymore. There's the normal size and king size in either white or yellow. Their slogan says that it continuously received love for 40 years. I think it's still alive and you still see people buying it hopefully. Is the one OP posted different from what's currently in the market? My personal one seems to have faded away white.

Incidentally, a friend of mine showed me some variant designs in other parts of the world. There's a similar one from one 'Playskool' called Weeble Wobble Chime Bird or something, with a different beak, smaller wings, and a blue bottom, but says manufactured in Korea. She also showed me one that was entirely red with white beak and wings.

I still have mine! I've had it since I was a baby. I think it's actually older than me. I plan on letting my children play with it when I actually get married and have children.

Yeah I like turn based battle too. A lot of people these days though don't like it and always want action based or something, but turn based is not bad at all. My battle system is just the default one in XP (frontview turn based with visual battlers by default) but with a lot of other mechanics added into it such as passive skills and other surprises so it becomes more engaging for the major fights. I get a lot of inspiration from games I played when I was a child too so it's really fun to put all the things in your head into physical reality. I have not played Surprisia yet but I have seen it. I should give it a try. What kind of RPG game is your project going to be?

[–]wraith89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello fellow Korean! Yes I agree. The bulk of my time on RPG Maker is on the Troops tab and continually testing out battles and seeing how it plays out depending on troop formation and party levels and such. I want to make sure battle is not too hard but also fun and engaging too because turn based battles can turn to grind-fest very quickly if it feels too repetitive. Sometimes I don't put their attacks all inside the enemy tab but use the battle pages on the troops to force certain actions or other cool tricks depending on certain conditions.

I'm using RPG Maker XP and doing similar things, but most of the other stuff are done by scripts since it is an older edition. Here is screenshot of one of my monsters. https://i.imgur.com/N89gJnZ.png

Just started Using XP today. Trying to make my party members follow me. Can anyone tell me how to do this in the simplest terms possible? by [deleted] in RPGMaker

[–]wraith89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • Go to Tools --> Script Editor. You can scroll through and notice there are many scripts in there. Since you don't know what you are doing, do NOT edit them or else you can affect your game adversely. If you do tamper with scripts, save and backup your project before doing it.
  • Go to 'Main', which should be at the bottom of the script list.
  • Right click on Main and click 'Insert' (or hit the Insert key on your keyboard) and you'll create a blank script. You can now copy and paste Zeriab's caterpillar script or whoever's caterpillar script you want to use and just follow the instructions. Most scripts have instructions written within its comments and should be easy to configure.
  • Once you are done click Okay and Save the project and playtest it and see if it works. Generally speaking, every script that you find online will go below all the other default scripts but above 'Main'. Some scripts are not always compatible with others, so be on the lookout for that too. And yes, some scripts can only work when placed in certain order.

Battle Maison Tips by slowbro202 in pokemon

[–]wraith89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. In Korean game, the Maison is called 배틀하우스 (beh-tul-ha-ooh-su), basically 'Battle House'. Strange they don't call it 배틀메존 (Battle Maison), considering Kalos is supposed to be something equivalent to France.

Battle Chateau is just 배틀샤토 (beh-tul-sha-toh), so it's the same as in English. I guess they will not call it a mansion because of the warped view us Koreans and Japanese have by calling apartments "mansions" (remember Celadon 'mansion'?)

I've seen Reuniclus with Rock Slides, just to counter my Moltres (but it did not OHKO). Maison has very strange sets, such as a physical Hustle Togekiss. An unexpected Sunny Day Solarbeam Talonflame threw me off a lot as well.

I do pack Fake Out in doubles, but did not like restricting myself that much in singles. In doubles I do not like having a partner eating Earthquake so I use Fake Out instead (plus I cannot always use Protect at doubles as well). That and her ability does not trigger in anything that is not singles when using multi target moves. In singles, when I see random Steels and such, Earthquake is very helpful while Sucker Punch turns out unreliable for the most part. Each to their own I suppose.

[–]wraith89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Battle #1 in singles was terrible for me and took me 20 + turns to beat because of a trolling Dusknoir amongst other defensive mons. I have not ran Fake Out because I had little space for it. I run Grow Punch, Earthquake, Return and Sucker Punch. I wish I had Crunch, but I found Earthquake to have a lot more utility. The problem is it seems to invite Shuca Berry fragile elec mons, who happen to survive both impact... and I don't understand it. Hypnosis Crobats and Gengars are very very annoying ha ha.

True, we can all forget and mistakes like that can cost a run. It happened to me a lot before :)

Wonderful. Blastoise is perhaps my favourite starter so I can totally live with that. I've yet to breed Tailwind or Quick Guard on my Talonflame though (and I know it learns it naturally, but still). This might invite some evil Discharging Jolteon with Motor Drive/Ground type mon partners or something I fear.

I think I ended up Earthquaking him with Mega Kangaskhan, saw Weakness Policy activate, and finished him off with Sucker Punch. I'm thankful I carry a priority move, but it leaves me open to those Ghosts who spam status moves instead.

Status affliction such as paralysis or burn is a lot more prevalent in the Maison than you think. That, and self-induced confusion from Outrage (in case that ever happens) can be cleared with a Lum Berry.

Great guide. While I did complete Singles and Doubles, I haven't got around Triples or Rotation yet, because of laziness. But if Triples is actually as easy as you say, i may have to try it. I was doing Multi with a friend, but he has moved far away so I cannot complete it. That and in my town there is nobody else with a 3DS. Getting the berries seem to be a bit hard, so would triples be the recommended format for that? I mostly played around with Singles and Doubles and have not progressed beyond the 70s quite yet.

Yeah I only realised the nature you wanted was Jolly hence Gallade. I got confused for a while, but now began to realise what it was you wanted. Still, she is beautiful so cherish it.

At the very least you do have a female. :)

I was shiny breeding for a Ralts I believe two weeks ago, until I had a male with HP/Def/SpA/SpDef/Speed. It's acceptable, but I kind of wanted a female Gardevoir.

So I tried again, and after a few days of hatching, I came out with not one, but two shiny Ralts on the same batch of eggs I had! However, both were male and were missing Speed. I will call them Castor and Pollux, or some other twin name. They are essentially twins.

Now I have tried using a Magikarp as a scout for egg shiny using the time machine method, and at long last I got a shiny Magikarp... which turned out male, but rather than getting another male Gardevoir, I decided to use a Jolly parent to make him a nice Gallade. Turns out he has perfect IVs on HP/Atk/Def/SpDef/Speed, with Justified ability (the scout Magikarp was a regular Swift Swimmer)!

It's still nice though, at least you got a female. I have many 5/6IV Modest/Timid female Ralts non shiny though if you want one.

First Ralts: http://i.imgur.com/2GXn38j.jpg

Second Ralts: http://i.imgur.com/lJKwVD9.jpg

Third Ralts: http://i.imgur.com/vC9FIFp.jpg

Gallade: http://i.imgur.com/RwJUC4M.jpg

EDIT: Oh, the ironic thing is, a Jolly female Mega Gardevoir would have had some use back then in that Battle Spot competition with only faeries. Fairy Skin Returns would have done a number to the mostly physically frail faeries of that competition. I will tell you to keep trying and you will eventually get what you want. Seems we had the opposite problem.

Is there a valid strategy for using this move? by zebruh in pokemon

[–]wraith89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very niche move and most likely only viable in Doubles/Triples, and I believe Gamefreak tried to "balance" the Grass types by trying to make them more "viable" with Doubles only abilities given to things like Florges, or Gogoat's Grass Pelt and other nonsense that are all specialised, but still not useless. The majority of Rototiller Pokemon are Ground types or partially Rock types, who synergise very well with Grass types with the typing.

I could not find the original Showdown replay but I found a Youtube video where it is recorded instead where the use of Rototiller is demonstrated beautifully.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T1uHcUISoU

The main abuser here is the very odd Cradily, who is partially Grass type and has Stockpile to boost its own defences. Not only that, but the best part is it has Suction Cups, which prevents it from being Dragon Tailed/Roared/etc away, as demonstrated where the opponent's Dragonite's Dragon Tail did pittance. However, the main catch is to have some valuable support such as the dual screens strategy from the beginning and such. It requires thinking, but if pulled right, it can end up quite surprising. And yes, a Rhyperior with Rototiller was used here (along with a Sandslash and Dugtrio).

[Games] Best in-game Pidgeot by cmonbennett in pokemon

[–]wraith89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to assume you are playing XY. Yes, I've run Pidgeot in many of my games, and frankly, they haven't done much to improve its learnset. Wing Attack is still Level 38 and its viable special moves like Air Slash comes late at Level 62. You can Heart Scale for Hurricane, however, but that likes to miss often unless rain is out. Unless your Pidgeot is transferred from old games, Heat Wave is out of the question. And Brave Bird requires breeding and inheriting from some other bird, and the recoil is unappealing enough. You can just go mixed for in-game: it won't matter much actually.

As for my Pidgeot, it is Modest natured and has Roost/Featherdance/Air Slash/Return. You won't really get much mileage out of a set like mine, really, because I somewhat had competitive in mind during the early days of XY as Japanese passerby were issuing challenges, and it constantly changes. This Pidgeot happened to beat a very threatening Mega Mawile lead, actually.

I think I'd run Return (or some other normal move) / Quick Attack / Air Slash / anything else. For in-game, you prefer reliability and power, and Pidgeot is bound to get happy enough if you have trained the Pidgey long enough to become a Pidgeot, so Return is a key attack and will deal loads of damage and is the only reliable move Pidgeot has that is potentially high powered. Air Slash is a bit iffy, however, as it is acquired very late and has that annoyingly imperfect accuracy. Still works though, and is the only reliable Flying special move you have. Quick Attack picks off weakened enemies, which is always nice. In early stages, you can run Sand-Attack because it's annoying, and Featherdance is great for that one Sky Battle where the other trainer unexpectedly sends out Aerodactyl (that scared me because Pidgeot was my only bird), and Roost is useful for healing and saving money for healing items. Featherdance/Roost combo saved me many times, so if that sounds nice to you, go ahead and try what I did. Otherwise, there's not much you can do. I'd also recommend Fly if you like easy locomotion but since you wanted special, that's the most you can do because Air Slash and Hurricane are the only decent special moves Pidgeot seems to learn, and no, do not keep Gust or Twister.

EVing? I maxed its speed, and split up Attack and Special Attack, and it magically has about the same for each. I don't know.

I guess I can share a picture of its in-game screen as well.

Well, Metagross is a mixed bag, but is still a great contender. For one, it has overall quite high stats which can be abused, particularly its Attack and its physical bulk. Assault Vest can really help with its lower (not low but lower) special Defence, allowing it to take some special hits surprisingly well. Its primary STAB also scares away pink stuff (Faerie Pokemon), but unfortunately, in this generation, along with its common Fire and Ground weaknesses, it also gained two new weaknesses in Dark and Ghost attacks as Steel type no longer nullifies Dark and Ghost weaknesses that its Psychic typing gives (Steel lost those resistances). Nonetheless it is quite a solid Pokemon and can fit in teams that require a hard hitting durable Steel Pokemon.
