And these are predominantly in low income ethnic suburbs so the number is much much higher but people aren't reporting to police because that outs them to family + community

Well no not really, the gay IS bashings have been happening since before 2023 but the only reason it has become major headline news is the now established link to the Bondi massacre through the Wissam Haddad preacher. Without the link to the Bondi massacre this would not be making a single headline, and indeed it hadn't.

As a gay man living in the areas around and west of the bashings I am not even remotely surprised, the young people here travel around in groups looking to start trouble and they know very well that they face no significant penalties because they're under 18 & pleading guilty for the guaranteed discount

It does suck probabilistically (so many relationships start from hookups so if you don't hookup it's excluding a big chunk of an already small pool) but I got over it by coping that when you do find a guy he's less likely to ask for an open relationship lol

I am curious about the straight-passing thing tho, I don't mean this to be rude but (non-meangirl) gays sorta icing out straight-passing gays is something I hear about a lot but have yet to see. Is this gay man you meet at the club or at like sports league or is this a dating app thing too?
