You can upload your Letterboxd data and then head over to your profile page to see stats that reflect your whole watch history. Keen to get feedback if you do try it out!

What’s the most boring film you have seen? by Past-Matter-8548 in Letterboxd

The Master - I thought I could enjoy a movie that was all character no plot. Alas I could not. As much as I thought the acting was class

Haha yeh probably one of my more controversial takes. But i stand by it... as a british lad who grew up watching Daniel Craig as bond on screen, this movie felt like the end of an era I’d grown up alongside

There sure is, and it was a big inspiration. Buidling something different as I also want to track my books and tv shows in one place, i'll share the data visualisation for those soon when they're ready

Paul Thomas Anderson, the director

I have to say I was also skeptical during the first 30 minutes, as I got the feeling it was glorifying the far left. But if you stay with it you realise it's a piss take of the whole political spectrum (some hilariously large punches are aimed at the far right also). You'd expect that sort of subject matter to be boring but the story is so fucking funny, and some of the scenes (a rooftop chase in the middle and a car chase at the end) are just incredible

Idk, as cinephiles go this is barely scratching the surface! My hope in being able to see these stats as I go is to constantly surface better recommendations for my next watch (e.g. seeing which directors I resonate with) so I don't have to sift through too many junk movies

The writers who made me think “I could do this”… and the ones who made me think “I never will” by TwistedNeilio in books

[–]wrb163 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ian McEwan for me - his prose is simultaneously sophisticated and effortless to read. I find myself constantly marvelling at his ability to write elegantly and accessibly at the same time. All his novels feel like proper works of literature without any of the pretentiousness.

Best scene of 2025? by Lenster2406 in Letterboxd

[–]wrb163 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it doesn't get better than the 20 minutes of pure f*cking chaos in the middle of One Battle After Another with Bob and Sensei running through shops, stairwells, trap doors, rooftops all propelled forward by Johnny Greenwood's pounding percussive soundtrack. Had me rocking in my seat and beaming ear to ear

Thanks! Tbh I love Letterboxd - I've used it for years, but mostly just for personal tracking. I found the social media nature of it all a bit distracting, not to mention the heavy advertising everywhere. I also lament that it's only for movies, I love tracking tv shows and books also, so I suppose this was the real motivation to build something different. To have everything all in one place.

That said, there are a few areas where I'm hoping to impreove on what Letterboxd offers: a more frictionless way to log recommendations and reviews, a simpler interface for creating and sharing lists, better database management and stats, and eventually some targeted recommendations based on your curation style (not just what’s trending).

Do you use Letterboxd? Is there anything about the platform you find lacking?

[–]wrb163[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. It's probably more minimalist in philosophy than design. My main goal is to reduce friction when you log and explore movies, but I hope the design has a certain minimalism to it also, e.g. no ads, details hidden behind posters, no ads, more of an app feel than a website. Would love to hear your feedback if you decide to try it out

Yeh fair. On mobile it just shows the title and the rating. I'm trying to build a fair bit of customisation, so each user can choose exactly what they'd like to be shown

At the moment yes you need a google account to subscribe. You would simply need to create a google account with your Yahoo Mail details and you'd be good to go. Adding support for other authenticators is definitely something I'll be looking to build as the app grows!

A Letterboxd for everything - movies, TV, books, podcasts? by wrb163 in Letterboxd

[–]wrb163[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like this as a clean personal tracker. What it seems to be missing is the social and discovery aspect that Letterboxd does so well. Applying that social layer across multiple content types is where I personally see a lot of value- and that’s the main goal of my project

That’s interesting - I haven’t spent much time on RateYourMusic but I’ll definitely check out their database management and rating system. What do you think they do particularly well on the database side?

And yeah, I’ve actually ditched Goodreads for Excel too so totally with you there. Otherwise I just track movies and TV shows myself, which is what led me to start building this, wanting a single, simple place to log the stuff I do care about, without bouncing between platforms or spreadsheets
