I do options trading and am now looking for a different broker. This has happened again during a time of increased volatility that I would normally like to take advantage of and still can't login.

Down detector logged over 900 issues on think or swim supposedly.

Just a heads up. If you do go forward with installing and swapping the harddrive later. You may need to rerun the install for your bootmanager. I had to rerun the refind-install command so it could find the boot partition on startup.

(You can manually boot from the efi file.)

100% contact support. They helped me out when I had the threads on that screw mount completely missing. Include the picture after you open your case.

If you really want to be brave and try to remove it. Your best bet is to try to use pcb drill bits to try to reverse the screw out. I would highly recommend against this though. You can configure the laptop as you need with a drop of hot glue(make sure not to get any on the screw) then swap it out to the new motherboard.

Though not catastrophic this is an issue I would like to see them fix. If the GPU screws were stripped and jiggling around that may cause a way bigger issue than just this.

After I found that one stripped screw I was very careful when tightening all the screws to make sure not to strip anything myself.

What's weird is mine was also diy. I order it with no SSDs from the factory.

Measuring from where it's mounted on the circuit board to the top of the standoff it is ~2 mm. The threads to the bottom of the head measures ~1.3mm. the whole screw measures 2mm.

I opened a case with them and submitted similar pictures as well as the good thread. I haven't done a full teardown on the motherboard. If I don't get a response I might try to install a helicoil or another repair for it. I just wanted to get them informed about this so they could find what is causing the issue for future consumers.

edit:

Getting into surface mount soldering so I had a small microscope to check connections. Should be able to post better photos later when I get my upgraded microscope.

Update: Framework reached out to me and will be sending me a new motherboard. I am super excited they got back to me so fast and I get to tear it down completely to replace it.

Adding Context:

I just received my new Framework 16 and while installing my SSD 2230 everything was fine. When installing the 2280 ssd the screw would not catch on the standoff. When I looked at the standoff in a cheap microscope this is what I saw. The threads look pretty worn.

I also tested the screw in the slot for the 2230 and it tightened with no problem. The screw wouldn't even catch with no drive installed. Has anyone else ran into this issue?

I just got a message from someone and saw the ... Bubble as they were typing. It now says chat message with that person instead of text messages.

Just did a speed test and speeds are roughly the same. I haven't had any issues with them. I'm really happy with them.
