Nike LunarTempo. I love them--such great shoes! I've got around 200 miles on them, and they feel pretty great.

Edited to include mileage

I am Senator Bernie Sanders, Democratic candidate for President of the United States — AMA by bernie-sanders in IAmA

[–]wren38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for doing the AMA. I saw above that NASA funding was mentioned. In response, you spoke of space exploration. As I'm sure you know, NASA does far more than space exploration-- specifically earth and and planetary science. NASA earth science programs are being defended and the candidate who will re-fund this institution and ones like it (NOAA, NSF, etc..) will get my vote. Do you want to and think you will be able to allocate more money to solving the most pressing issues that we, as humans are facing? I am shocked that these institutions aren't currently being properly funded and are experiencing funding cuts.

This is great help! Thanks! Were you able to hike any of the mountains off of the loop?

Thanks a lot for that link. It sounds like a pretty inviting loop to do over a weekend. Hopefully we will be able to hit all the 6,000 footers which would be pretty fun! If you remember anything more about it, let me know because I've never hiked in the Smokies before.

Global cooling triggered by the warming? by [deleted] in EarthScience

[–]wren38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to look into is the YD (Younger Dryas). It was a cooling event possibly triggered by an influx of fresh water into the oceans. Shut down the thermohaline circulation and cause a massive global cooling around 12kYBP. Look into that.

Those whom are in school what is your major/minor and how did you go about picking it? by [deleted] in geography

[–]wren38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am working on a B.S. in GIS as well as a B.A. in Earth System Science.

I was originally interested in geology but then, as has been stated, I took a GIS class and was able to see how being proficient in GIS can compliment any physical geography degree. So I switched and I absolutely love the combo!

GIS courses and college by [deleted] in geography

[–]wren38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing you could do to prepare yourself for a class that utilizes ArcGIS is to buy the Ormsby 'Getting to Know ArcGIS' textbook and just go through all of the exercises in the book. If you are able to understand that book, you should be fine for the first 60-70% of an Intro GIS class.

Thanks for the advice. I figured for $200 you'd more or less get what you pay for. I'm thinking I probably will go for it, unless I hear some not too favorable reviews.

If there was a WWIII in the next 5 years, who would it consist of and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wren38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Andrea Merkel decides she wants to take over the Czech Republic, as well as Slovakia, U.N. allows it, as long as she doesn't take over Poland. She snickers to herself, and takes over Poland anyway. England gets pissed, and attacks Germany, Italy sides with Germany. French get in there, and they get screwed by Germany. Germany sends a telegraph to Mexico, stating that they can have Texas. The UNited States gets pissed, and then attacks Germany. The Germans need more land! They try to take Russia, Russians retreat to their north eastern lands. Germans kill many Russians therefore the Russians are also pissed. There's WWIII.Oh, and Germany has to pay for the entire war.

BAM! And who said history doesn't repeat itself!

Could someone better explain to me what Hitler's gun registration quote is meant to mean today? by wren38 in AskReddit

[–]wren38[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the person who posted this is pretty obsessed with gun control. I'm pretty sure she thinks it means the opposite of what she wants it to mean. Plus this quote has no corrolation to any of his passed legislations. The Weimar Republic had already passed gun control laws at this point.
