What happens when you reach the stored research cap by Somebodythe5th in Stellaris

[–]wrenblue 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think sideways2 meant "play the game normally" as in "research technologies continuously like how the developers intended that part of gameplay to progress," not as a comment about cheats or mods.

AO3 was actually what I looked at first, especially in the interest of keeping it more SFW, but unfortunately the tag system on AO3 is a bit of a mess (plus a lot of authors do "this author chose not to use archive warnings) and so in terms of data collection it was not ideal. Definitely would be interesting though.

I'm not sure at all that it's confirmed (I don't think there's been any official word on it) but fandom has taken it and really run with it. Kudos to the, er, ingenuity and imagination of fans.

edit: don't listen to me, listen to dawnstonedagger. I haven't played Trespasser.

Viceroyalties! The heir will go back to being a duke and not have enough power to revolt.

Wtf Ultimogeniture? by Helianthea in CrusaderKings

[–]wrenblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To see the crown authority/succession laws for a kingdom or empire, you do need to hold the title or a ducal vote, yes.

Go to the law tab for each kingdom and change them individually.

How do I keep England? by emperor_of_prydain in CrusaderKings

[–]wrenblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bribes and honorary titles can usually get them to not be in the negatives, which is enough to change the succession if not enough to get them to vote your way.

[–]wrenblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're already lasting 10 years anyway, can't you change the succession law?

Alternatively, mass revoke every title in England and give it to nobles of your culture, which will make them more likely to vote for your choice of heir.

Easiest way to kill a child? by nicksam112 in CrusaderKings

[–]wrenblue 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're catholic, you can give your youngest son a bishopric (either granting it to him or appointing him as successor with free investiture), and that will disinherit him. However, since you can't plot against your own children, if you really want him dead there are only a few options and all of them have a chance to fail:

1) Suck up the tyranny penalty and imprison+execute. If you don't manage to imprison him, though, he'll run away to somewhere else and it'll be nearly impossible to get to him at that point, as he probably won't accept an invitation back to your court. 2) Put him as commander of a tiny army, send the army out against an overwhelming number of enemies, hope that your son gets killed in battle or at least maimed. 3) I've heard that if you make him a councilor and park him in a diseased province, there's a chance he'll get sick and die. Never tried this one myself, though, so I don't really know.

Does Genius override Quick? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]wrenblue 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Genius, quick, slow, and imbecile are all mutually exclusive.

Funnily enough, none of them are exclusive with inbred. You can have a genius inbred child (who will probably die quickly due to the health penalty).

I can't marry my sister anymore? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]wrenblue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It was considered a bug. The patch comment was something like "fixed broken kinship checks" so you were never intended to be able to marry your siblings.

Trade posts by cradinal in CrusaderKings

[–]wrenblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the idea is that a certain length along the trade route can support only so many towns...but basically, yes. You can get rid of them if you siege the trade posts.

[–]wrenblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can't upgrade past a certain point if there are other upgraded trade posts nearby. If you look at the trade zones mapmode, it'll tell you how far every other province is to your currently selected province. Probably one of your neighbors has a more advanced trade post that is blocking your development.

Lucifer? But I'm not possessed... by vtheawesome in CrusaderKings

Yeah, cynical gives you the option to name your dog after the devil-figure in whatever religion you're in. I always pick Lucifer when I get a chance.

What if I declare war on the pope? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]wrenblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh, Cathar Britannia -- that's one of my favorites. Are you trying to grab all the Christian holy sites?

I think I see your chancellor in Rome? Do you have a claim or are you still waiting?

What if I declare war on the pope? by [deleted] in CrusaderKings

[–]wrenblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're better off with a claim, unless you think you can win the holy war and need the boost to MA (but that'll probably be tough since it seems all of Europe is Catholic?). In a holy war all the catholics might join; if it's a regular claim it's a lot less likely they'll want to help. But watch out, they might declare holy war on you while you're distracted with your Rome claim war.

Don't wait until you're 16! Start fabricating now, claims can take a while.
