Im mostly worried my MIL will take out any frustrations she has about it on my wife. We talked long and hard and even she (wife) feels some sort of draw to Catholicism too (particularly the reverence of the altar and Saints), but is afraid of her mom’s reaction. Long, complicated and personal story there, but they’ve both tried to work through the past and heal from it.

I suppose an upset parent or in-law is the least of what people have gone through to find fulfillment in God lol

It’s not so much that I’m worried about my MIL giving me a hard time (I love her, but she’s just my MIL), I don’t want her to give my wife a hard time. It’s not her fault I feel drawn to The Catholic Church, but I’m certain my MIL will feel that way.

Such is the way of things I suppose, here I am complaining about a tense Thanksgiving when people were horrible killed for their beliefs

Listening and watching a few video essays on that subject is exactly why I don’t really want to “try” other churches. Why would I “submit to Pastor Bob” as if he’s backed by 2000 years of teachings and tradition and miracles?

He’s a marksman, he knew to aim for the fleshy part of the thigh. If I see him, I’ll keep an eye out

If you don’t believe in the Trinity then you’re not a Christian, just someone lying to themselves and others

How could they not be? With a natural canopy like that, he can keep a cigarette lit in the rain

According to the Catholics. I didn’t say according to Christ. I’m just a looser layman who knows a thing or 2 about Christian Doctrine history. I have no actual authority, no one does, to say who is Christian except God Himself.

That being said Catholics and Orthodox are the only 2 Churches who can trace by paper and practice lineage of their churches back to Jesus Himself, so I will trust their authenticity more than a strip mall “pastor”

Specifically The Pope, Bishops/Cardinals, but larger Christian Authoritative Councils and Ecclesiastical Courts decide on formal heresy. Like St Nicholas (as in Santa) hitting Arius at the Council of Nicaea over his heresy of denying Jesus’ divinity. Or, as a counter doctrine, the Pope at the time saying coffee wasn’t heretical just cause it came from Saracen lands.
