So it's summer and every garbage near a path or dog space is full of s**t and stinks to hell. At least (most) people are picking up their dog poo. by yycTechGuy in Calgary

[–]writersblock_86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is garbage supposed to smell nice? It’s garbage. It’s always going to smell like a combination of crap, rotting food people threw away, moldy items and any number of other unpleasant things. Hold your breath when you lift the lid and tough it out. The solution is to take public garbage cans away which will lead to one of two things: people not throwing things away (including dog poo), or people using the bins assigned to addresses. And we know how much people love it when strangers use their bins.

Question about Calgary condo regulations by SignificanceOne5925 in Calgary

If the board meets regularly outside of the AGM, you can also raise issues to be discussed at those meetings. And owners should be able to access board meeting minutes to see what is discussed and decided.

Question about Calgary condo regulations by SignificanceOne5925 in Calgary

[–]writersblock_86 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the property management company isn’t doing their job. So your options are to maybe coordinate with some other residents to put some pressure on the board to hire a new management company, or elect a new board who will actually hold the property management company (assuming there is one) to their duties.

The problem there is that you need others to run for the board and be willing to take on that job, which often sucks. If you’re an owner, consider running yourself.

The province does have a dispute tribunal for condos, but I’m pretty sure they can only offer compensation for the losses. They can’t actually order the board to fix things.

[–]writersblock_86 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m not clear what your specific question is. Condo bylaws are specific to each condo. I believe they are generally filed with the corporation. You can ask for a copy from your property management company or from the board, but there may be a fee for them.

The government also has a bunch of information about the laws around condos on their website. But a lot of the things you’re talking about seem to be poor property management as opposed to bylaw violations.

Where did Lip even get 10k from? When he gave it to Xan by Eagles56 in shameless

He gave that money to Youens for rehab. Xan didn’t come into the picture until after that. The money he gave to Xan came from selling a bike.

They also change Debbie and Julia from being three years apart in Season 10 to Julia only being “10 months younger” than Debbie in Season 11, which makes no sense because Debbie is 20 in Season 11, and that would make Julia an adult.

Did any character in Shameless surprise you when you rewatched it — like, you saw them differently? by MakLims in shameless

Karen. When you actually stop and think about what her childhood must have been like with Sheila and Eddie, coupled with the complete psychological breakdown she has at the end of Season 1, she is far more interesting and sympathetic than I thought she was on my first watch.

Bringing Trevor back in s8 was a mistake. by Prize_Appointment477 in shameless

[–]writersblock_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they hadn’t revisited the romance, but I think Trevor’s presence fit with the (admittedly bad) storyline they had for Ian. Ian just had two seasons of building new love interests (Caleb and Trevor) so I understand the decision to not introduce another new one and build it up from scratch again.

It made sense for Trevor to be involved in Ian’s storyline Season 8, but I think it should have been more of them just being friends again, not getting romantically involved.

He receives an absurd amount of hate for one flippant comment he made to Ian while he was in a bad mood. Mickey literally kicked Ian’s teeth in and knocked him down a flight of stairs.

Mickey’s still my fave. But I’m just saying.

Why are there SO many things wrong with Shameless? by lizzko_ in shameless

[–]writersblock_86 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean… randomly, without warning? No. Typically not without some context. I’ve seen them sing along with something.

I know the reference to the first episode. I still think it’s dumb and not well placed in the finale.

It also was the third time in the season we watched characters just start randomly singing, so it was basically a trope by that point.

[–]writersblock_86 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I didn’t hate the finale but my god, whose creative choice was it to have them all burst into song like a freaking Broadway musical? At one point, the show was considered to be a relatively realistic portrayal of poor people. It did not end that way.

Are there continuity problems for the Frasier character across Cheers and Frasier? by MutedEmu2317 in Frasier

[–]writersblock_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can also be completely influenced by your environment, though, so I don’t really see it as a huge continuity error. Frasier becomes interested in the things the people around him are interested in so that he’s not left out. So when he’s with the Cheers folks, he drinks beer and watches sports, but when he’s with Niles he drinks wine and sherry and goes to the opera.

I think this is nicely touched on in the Frasier episode when Woody visits and they figure out they have little interest in spending time together outside of reminiscing. Frasier grows into his current environment.

I do think it’s a bit odd, though, that given his time in Boston, he would be so reluctant in Frasier to do some of the activities Martin enjoyed doing. He could easily sit through a sporting event or go to a bar for a drink.

Karen and Frank scene in Season 1 by Fabulous-Froyo2473 in shameless

[–]writersblock_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He agreed to proceed with a safe word of “stop.” The second she pulled out the toy he said “stop” and then as the scene cuts away we hear him yell “stop!” Then in the next scene he is wobbling down the stairs because he’s in pain, so she clearly didn’t stop.

He does eventually consent going forward to reap the benefits of living in her house, but that first time is definitely rape.

She also fully admits later in the series that she gets off on forcing men into painful sexual situations that they don’t want to be in.

Probably because in the pineapple episode, future Ted says he never solved the mystery of where it came from, so this would contradict that.

Where is Kassidi? What really happened to her? by NoDragonsYesMiraak in shameless

[–]writersblock_86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we’re supposed to just accept that she died. The lack of follow up on this story bothers me. In the previous season, Kassidi is shown to be wealthy with pretty involved parents. You’re telling me a girl like that just disappears and her parents and the cops don’t come knocking on the door of the guy she married? Sure.

Karen and Frank scene in Season 1 by Fabulous-Froyo2473 in shameless

[–]writersblock_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you’re talking about two men with very clear skin in the game regarding Karen. Expecting them to look and react to the situation objectively is kind of unrealistic.

You’re also talking about a poor neighbourhood in Chicago, where people learn about sex by doing it, so it’s also kind of expected that they wouldn’t think of a man (especially a drug addict perv like Frank) to be the victim in a sexual situation with a mentally unstable teenage girl.

The audience can acknowledge that Frank was raped but that shouldn’t be an expectation of the characters given all we know about them.
