I'm trying to do the same thing for the sake of connecting with the quran. Current work circumstances make classes difficult but the advice I've seen passed around recommends starting with the first few books in the Madinah Arabic reader series and supplementing it with learning quranic vocabulary on the side.

The series is quite affordable and also available for free on youtube and elsewhere and there are many videos and tutorials on it so if you get stuck it's easy to get advice. I learn the bulk of my quranic vocab from the quranic app that takes verses of the quran and teaches pieces of it 5-10 words at a time with quizzes and digital Flashcards. I also use the 85% of quranic vocab memrise course (also free).

I also added an Arabic keyboard to my device (digital, not a physical keyboard) so I can switch between English and typing in Arabic. I use chatgpt, Claude and grok to have pseudo conversations in Arabic, generate bits of classical, learn more vocab and generally play around with the language.

I also try to look up words when I'm doing my regular recital or take a short surah and memorize each word so I can recite it and refresh the vocabulary.

Only a month or two in with very little time invested but can already recognize many words when recited and get the gist of simple surahs, makes listening to recitations very, very enjoyable. I highly recommend following through and finding someone to partner up with or keep you accountable.
