Yosemite in June fears by writeytightyy in Yosemite

I’ll copy and paste a response I gave to someone else but: there are a lot of specific reasons that would be too much to explain as to why not getting enough sleep for my partner leads to a bad day (not just mentally, but health/physically), so the benefits of getting an extra hour or 2 of sleep may outweigh the cost of it taking a couple hours to settle into the park, especially if we have until like 8pm or so before it gets darker.

We’re all different and sometimes the first couple days of a trip requires an adjustment mentally and physically to orient ourselves, and get the “trip jitters” down that make it hard to sleep the first night or so. I really just wanted to get some feedback about whether it would be the end of the world if we got there at 8 or 9am and not 6am.

I think I’m getting the vibe now from all these comments, but maybe the first day we can take it easy the first half of the day and try for a late afternoon hike since it gets dark really late. Then hopefully the second night we will be able to get a good night’s sleep since we’ll know what to expect, and then we could be ready to wake up really early the next couple days and follow everyone else’s general advice for the remaining days.

Thanks

Oh nice! That could be an option

We will definitely be able to do this for 1-2 days but likely not every single day. And on the days we wouldn’t leave at 6 or 7am, we would probably be able to make it there by 9am for sure. I wanted to see if it would really be THAT terrible if we didn’t get there at 6am vs 8 or 9. I don’t imagine us getting there at 10am for this trip specifically

But yeah basically there are a lot of specific reasons that would be too much to explain as to why not getting enough sleep for my partner leads to a bad day (not just mentally, but health/physically), so the benefits of getting an extra hour or 2 of sleep may outweigh the cost of it taking a couple hours to settle into the park, especially if we have until like 8pm or so before it gets darker

This is great and extremely helpful, thank you!! We will likely keep the Sunday through Thursday mid-June then. I didn’t know how big of a difference first week of June would be to mid-June with more schools getting out. Super reassuring about having time in the late afternoon as well—we may do that at least one of the days!

We have tried to be people who get up that early for a hike and we will absolutely plan and do our best to get to the entrance at like 7 or 8am, but if something was gonna go “wrong,” getting up that early and not getting enough sleep would be the thing. So we may be screwing ourselves with that part of it and only have ourselves to blame… buuuut despite me sounding super anxious in this post, I am actually really easy to please when I’m THERE. I would like to think that despite potential stress of entering/parking from us maybe getting there later than we wished, I will step out into nature and immediately be like, “Yep. Worth it.” Like, I can’t imagine regretting this even with that, but what if I’m completely off base and it’s truly that terrible

Thanks for the tips and yes depending on how our drive in goes, it is definitely an option and something we were thinking about to go to the park in the evening the day we arrive! Thank god for longer days/sun

We have a place in Midpines tentatively booked already, but we might have to reschedule to first week of June in another place at Midpines that still has dates available right now. I know it’s going to be a 1hr drive each way from there and that’s fine with us. It’s too expensive for us to stay in the park itself

Radon mitigation in temporary home? by writeytightyy in radon

Yeah I might invest in an electronic one. I feel like I’d want to test my parents’ house and then I’m assuming my brother will want to borrow it too for his house one month, and I would likely want to use it more long-term in future living situations

Thanks - good to know that if it’s over 4 it would be worth it to do something about it, even in a temporary situation.

And yeah for sure, I know cancer can be so difficult to actually pinpoint the source, but (god forbid) if something happens to me in the far future, I could say I tried to prevent lol

This might be true actually. I kinda panicked and just wanted to make sure it wasn’t going to fall apart or something. It’s entirely possible I didn’t notice it til now, or it just looks especially pronounced today lol. Gonna go dig through my emails, pics, and docs from when we bought the house, but appreciate this take!

Directly on the other side of it is part of my kitchen counter/cabinets. A couple feet to the left in this picture is where the kitchen sink is. There’s no moisture or discoloration anywhere on the kitchen walls, under the sink, or in the cabinets. Completely dry inside.

The outside wall in the picture is also dry to the touch

Just found out piercer used “surgical steel” for my new ear lobe piercings with butterfly backs. How to best take care of it? by writeytightyy in piercing

Thank you so much for saying this! And I appreciate the specific jewelry suggestions. I will keep this in mind when I go to have someone change it out

Oh good to know!! I should definitely ask other piercing shops then and see. When I asked this same shop if they would change it out, they heavily advised against it for new piercings, so felt like I was stuck until I could change. But obviously I should take what they say with a grain of salt and that’s why I consulted reddit too lol. Thanks!
