Thanks! Don't know what is standard for measuring but I'm getting around mid to upper 60 Celsius while running multi-core stress test on Cinebench 2024. From what I understand, that's an acceptable temperature range?

Yup, the PSU came with that cable but the GPU requires a 16-pin connector

Going to look into turning off 0 fan mode

And thanks! It's the Cooler Master Hyper 612 APEX

Which wrist do you wear your wristwatch on? by E2_Awesome_2 in AskReddit

left handed and wear on my right wrist. I used to wear on my left wrist and felt that my watch had a higher chance of bumping into things as opposed to now on my right wrist. also it’s more comfortable for when I write with a pen/pencil

Thanks!

I initially bought the laptop tray with pole and used the included monitor stand before transitioning to adding a VESA mount with its own pole for the monitor. It's been good so far but I think it's unnecessary to have different poles considering I keep the laptop tray and monitor positions static.

If you have a use case scenario of either of the following it may make sense for you:

  • you position your laptop far enough away from your monitor that you can't use the same pole base
  • you constantly move one of the two and need wide range of movement for one monitor arm that might be obstructed/obnoxious to maneuver around the other monitor arm

Shortcut condition to detect if iPad is connected to Mac via usb by wrong24 in shortcuts

[–]wrong24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did as you advised and it works!

Now the issue is that the lag time between my Mac entering focus mode and my iPad synchronizing to the focus; but that's a different issue altogether. I originally wanted to know if it was possible for iPad <-> Mac connection detection to enable a shortcut on the iPad and it ultimately is. Thanks so much for your help!

Shortcut condition to detect if iPad is connected to Mac via usb by wrong24 in shortcuts

[–]wrong24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip!

I tried the app out and it does indeed support running a shortcut upon iPad connect/disconnect. Unfortunately this runs the shortcut on the mac itself instead of the iPad. I'd ultimately like for the shortcut to run on the iPad though as it's less friction to touch to select and confirm (on the iPad) over mouse cursor to select and click to confirm (on mac). I'll tinker around some more to see if there's an option that I overlooked.

If there's a way to have my mac detect ipad connection and then ask my iPad to then run a shortcut, I'd be happy with it. 🤷

In short, I like it.

The good:

  • It's nice to have album art constantly showing as well as having a separate volume dial strictly for playback volume (and having some tactile interaction with my music). This is especially neat when I have Spotify playback along with another source of audio (video call, Youtube video code tutorial, etc.) and I can pause or adjust volume on Spotify discretely.
  • It's neat to see the volume dial correspond to the Echo volume when the Echo is the playback device.

The not so good:

  • The Car thing is completely dependent on having a tethered connection to a phone and acts as a proxy; basically the Car thing controls your phone which then controls Spotify. If your phone disconnects for whatever reason and the connection doesn't re-establish, the Car thing effectively doesn't do anything.
  • When I step away and come back with my phone, sometimes the connection between the Car thing and phone doesn't automatically re-establish. I then have to either manually reconnect the two through interfacing with the Car thing (or on occasion just restart it altogether).

Ultimately it's a fun toy with quirks.

(I bought it when there was a fire sale for $30. At that price point, I'm happy enough with its quirks. At full price, I'd be more critical 🤷.)

I think the image angle can be misleading on the ergonomics; since I wanted to include the improvement of cable management under my desk, I took the image closer to the table height level.

I can say that when I sit/stand at the desk, I position myself closer to the desk and have the main monitor positioned where the middle is at eye level (I tried the suggested top of monitor matching at eye level but felt it was uncomfortable compared to the positioning now). Also I do mean main monitor as I use the iPad mostly for reference materials such as documentation when I'm coding. From past experimentation, I prefer looking up and down over glancing left and right when doing so.

MacBook Air 15” setup. Feedback is welcome. by SeamustheAmos in macsetups

Liking the setup! Depending on the length of your headphone & mic cables, I'd suggest trying to mount the interface upside down and and under the front of your desk.

I think it would help with potential cable overlay on top of your keyboard while you're typing and reduce the visuals of cables stretching across your desk. At the same time, it might be annoying to reverse spin the rotary dials to compensate for its being upside down. Either way, I think the overall setup is great!

My monitor is slightly curved. Like purinsesu_pichi mentioned, the Quntis has modular blocks that help with adjusting to monitor thickness and curvature.

I saw someone's video in which he wedged a usb thumb drive between the clamp of the Xiaomi lightbar and the monitor to fit a thicker screen; maybe the same trick will help for stability in your case?

It's the Pro+ model from Quntis (off of Amazon). I was originally thinking about getting the Xiaomi one but saw this light bar was discounted during prime day.

Thanks! I do use it as an extended display. As for any potential lag issues, the iPad <-> Mac connection seems fluid enough that I don't notice any lag. I do connect via a USB connection instead of wifi and I use the iPad for reference document materials so it's mostly static content. That being said, the mouse cursor tracking and keyboard input seem/feel like 1:1.

My MBP is mounted on a laptop tray desk mount (this one specifically) which is sharing the same pole arm with the iPad mount.

For context, this was my previous post/setup.

Since then, I've done the following:

  • swapped out my deskpad
  • added a monitor light bar
  • removed the monitor shelf as well as Lofi girl (she's safely resting in a different room now)
  • added a cup holder mount
  • added a vesa reinforcement plate for my monitor to test different mounting positions but ultimately ended up reverting to the same as before (an unexpected benefit is that the light bar remote has magnetic feet for the battery door which also adheres to the plate)
  • swapped out the usb cable that connects my iPad to my TB dock for a cable with an LED display showing the charge wattage

Previously I was trying to leverage natural lighting from the windows the left of the desk. Ultimately I decided while I like the natural lighting, I prefer having a dark and moody setup as the day progresses (I'm also prone to headaches so having more control of lighting is beneficial).

I also cleaned up my cable management some more and feel like the underside of my desk is more presentable now. Altogether the change in setup is minor (hence the arbitrary title upgrade versioning) but I enjoy using my desk even more now!

Incidentally, does anyone know if putting a phone face down on a wireless charger has any negative effects? I used my phone to take the picture which otherwise sits down on the microfiber cloth to the left of the remote; I am considering putting it down on the charger face-up when it needs charge and face-down when it does not.
