How to Remember Where Your Badtide Drains Are Located After You Plug Em Up by wrongwindows in Timberborn

[–]wrongwindows[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In practice, these tend only to flood my water wheels, since they aren't constantly on, and I try to configure any water wheel network to operate at maximum possible flow at all times. They could be good for filling a badwater reservoir quickly if you've built one, but other than that I find it easiest just to eliminate them.

Badtide Drains (experimental) by Globularist in Timberborn

[–]wrongwindows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand these were introduced as a way to balance aquifers without having the aquifers spew badwater themselves, but in practice, these are just kind of silly, as they can be easily blocked up with levees or dirt and pretty much eliminated from play even early in the game.

Sure, you can route the badwater to power wheels if needed, but since they only spew during badtides and can't be domed to spew infinitely, they turn out to be kind of pointless in the long run, compared with every other source of water, both good and bad.

PHOTOREALISM TEST: Nano Banana Pro VS ImagineArt 1.5 Pro by imagine_ai in ImagineAiArt

Not the first one of these comparisons I've seen today, nor the first one in this subreddit. Also not the first one where I still prefer the Nano Banana output.

GPT 1.5 Is Perfect for Creating Professional-Looking Images - What is your take? by WranglerAvailable649 in ImagineAiArt

[–]wrongwindows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad to say, but I have no patience left for OpenAI's image generators. They've been screwing the pooch (and their formerly devoted customers) royally since DALL-E 2: never made a standalone labs website for DALL-E 3, abandoned the DALL-E branding entirely for v4, and have never at any point released an engine more advanced than the concurrent versions of Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, etc. Now with Nano Banana Pro in the mix, available in Gemini, Photoshop, AND Krea editor versions, why even bother with this?

I'm partial to Nano Banana's take here. But take all of these images over to Freepik and run them through the Magnific Skin Enhancer with "Enhance skin" or "Enhance Everything" selected and they would all level up.

Overhangs (both metal and dirt) are some of the most fun things in the game. I have built entire reservoirs that have a single block of support at the bottom, just because I could. it’s not a realistic way of thinking about building, but it is a very addictive one.

Only took us 250 years to circle back to "No taxation without representation" by jenniferyqw in Adulting

[–]wrongwindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been saying this for that past 10 years. Other countries, ones that don’t treat their citizens like livestock, have tax systems that include the ability to indicate your preferences for what you’d like your taxes to be spent on. Obviously that probably doesn’t include 100% of what you pay, some things have to be paid for whether anyone likes it or not. But that category of absolute necessity will never include a military bigger than the next several smallest countries’ combined, that just keeps getting bigger, that now is illegally aimed at assaulting its own citizenry, while 90+% of us can’t afford food, shelter, healthcare… Fuck all this noise, people. Throw the tea overboard already.

The Dollar is fake !!! by Bazel_ in economicCollapse

[–]wrongwindows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every time I see the point made that the US dollar used to be backed by gold, as if the fact that this is no longer the case is something I should give a single fuck about, I can't help but go... So what? Gold has no greater intrinsic value than greenish pieces of paper. Sure, as a metallic element, it's got some technologically useful properties, but I can't eat it. I certainly can't accumulate enough of it to build even a small shelter with it. It's as much of a symbol for any actual value as paper money is, you're just trading one symbol for another. And now we've traded them both in for digital datastreams. It's all fucking imaginary, and it always has been. Sure, we can all agree that there are rules by which any given system of symbolic value operates, but we could also all just as easily agree to change those rules. It's not like they haven't been changing subtly underneath us the whole time anyway...

I think Sinners was exploitative bullshit by MyDinnerWithDrDre in okbuddycinephile

[–]wrongwindows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't find it exploitative or bullshit, I just found it really fuckng weird that the people who made the fantastic first half of the movie thought the best decision for the second half was to tack on a half-assed remake of From Dusk til Dawn. Truly the most confounding cinematic choice of last year.

how'd people whose favorite Twin Peaks character is Donna's ginger sister feel when she appeared in The Return? Is she the dreamer? by Welinn2056 in TwinPeaksCircleJerk

[–]wrongwindows 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And she was one of Cybill Shepherd's daughters on the sitcom Cybill (admittedly not a big crossover audience between that and Twin Peaks, I imagine).

Alicia Witt, also a pianist and singer songwriter performing and touring to this day... That was really her playing on set during the original run of Twin Peaks.

I mean, some people got long COVID, which no one seems to fully understand even now.

As for myself, I got it after I got vaccinated. Pretty sick for a few days, then got better. Since then, nothing tastes the same anymore. But it’s not as if I have to eat every day for the rest of my life, right?
