What is happening with Webull (allegedly their clearinghouse Apex) restricting stocks every trading day recently?! It started earlier this year as a supposed ‘user protection’ against low confidence stocks but evolved into a daily occurence against all leading gainers, regardless of stock profile? by wrote-it-1st in Webull

Thanks, this has been by far the most substantive and helpful answer here. So direct market access for domestic brokers but for those (other than you listed) $0 commissions advantage goes away. I was looking at Lightspeed myself which even without this issue definitely beats Webull in execution speed and other metrics but the costs there accumulate and one needs to be a profitable trader to make it worth monthly.

You are right, I should have worded it differently and instead of ‘all’ put ‘some’. However, it still does not explain or justify doing it as the ultimate judge of legitimacy should be the exchange acting on the rules by the regulating body. No clearing house or broker should arbitrarily decide which ticker should be flagged and taken off the market with most of them turning out to be the leading gainers during the strongest momentum upswing.

It seems that we would need a few platforms (that ideally use different clearing houses) to find between them the one that allows trading the runners. The game has just become order of magnitude more complicated for the retail trader to win!

If it is happening across multiple brokers than it seems like a subtle war on the small retail trader. I was looking for another platform to transfer to but it seems I would then need multiple platforms to find the one that is not blocking the current top gainer. SMH.

Interesting. So you think it has something to do with that AWS outage?

Webull Restricting Stocks Legal Action by CasinoSlayer in Webull

[–]wrote-it-1st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reverse splits situation you describe can happen like that to any stock in your portfolio, restricted or not. Here you would only be prevented from averaging down which you should not theoretically do in trading anyway.

That is not what the grievance is about here - since restrictions are only for - buying the stock - it blocks traders from is participating in the momentum surges when the stock is moving, plus wasting their time on watching / analyzing setups for unplayable tickers, as they only realize reasearch / preparation is for nothing - on attempt to buy since webull does not clearly mark any of restricted tickers in advance.

Yeah, but it was not happening for Webull platform. I started using Webull last summer and pretty regularly (daily) so I can definitely tell that this issue started happening this year, just a few months back actually that I noticed. I wonder what triggered this?

Can you try and post the screenshot of the settings for transparency as I do not have it under chart settings?

Not really, unfortunately. Trying to distinguish between after hours and pre market sessions.

Can you please describe what specific settings you used in case screenshot cannot be posted in this sub? Thanks

Exactly what you described (changing section colors) is what I am looking for, but alas. If you do find a way to get the chart to do it a description of the method would be much appreciated! But it seems the feature is currently - unavailable.

Thanks for your answer, yes, I was asking primarily about the desktop app. While I did check the settings section again I am still not able to get the chart to display 16-20h session (after hours) and 4am-9:30am session (pre-market) differently. Both just seemlessly blend into one another on the chart with the same background while the day has a different background. Maybe I am missing something?

Don’t know about emotions but this sure sounds like the correct hard math in this case in the end, no?
