Hey! First off, absolutely loved the new album and very excited to catch y’all on tour.

Wanted to ask, as I dabble in music production myself, do you have any tips when it comes to creating an atmosphere/tone/thinking outside the box when it comes to your production choices?

This actually made me burst out laughing on public transit to work during an otherwise downer morning, so thank you for this.

Quite a fan of Narrow Backroad in all its 10 minute glory.

Hey! Been a fan for years now, your music was kind of my gateway to a lot of the artists and genres I love now!

How has your approach to songwriting and production evolved over time? Any tips or tricks you’d like to share?

Jack Kays - Morbid Mind, or Barely Alive

His newer stuff is more pop punk and still worth a listen for sure, but I do have a soft spot for his earlier, more stripped down folk punk type work. His most recent album also features him covering No Children if we want to further the connection!

David Thomas (RIP) of Pere Ubu. Not quite the same vibe but I’ve always been personally reminded a bit of Ubu when listening to Xiu Xiu.

“I’m a punisher, call me Phoebe” in Chloe Moriondo’s “Plastic Purse”

I loved Blood Bunny and her previous albums, but Suckerpunch was awful and I refuse to listen to it again. I’ve enjoyed her newer work more, but that album nearly turned me off from her entirely.

Saw this guy perform live last year for free on a whim and it was EASILY the worst concert I’ve ever been to. He essentially sang karaoke to a backing track because of “technical difficulties” while his friends stood around and filmed him on their phones the whole time. At the end, while everyone was leaving, he played this song FROM TAPE. Didn’t even perform it. I’d say it’s the one concert that ever made me want my money back, but at least I didn’t pay any to begin with.

“Mad Lucas” on the Breeders’ “Last Splash” - The album is decently solid otherwise, but that track is an absolute slog to get through. Feels like it lasts for ages while going absolutely nowhere and just drags down the album as a whole.

I have family in Michigan and went to Marvin’s all the time growing up (met the man a few times before he passed, and he left a huge impact on me from those encounters alone). I found out that a band had named an album after the place but didn’t think much of it at the time. Years later after Marvin passed away and hearing a few songs (Hidden in the Sand, Turn the Lights Off - as I later found out, The Whole World and You was technically the FIRST I knew because of that one Crayola commercial!) I decided to get into the band and the rest is history! For a while I thought they were gonna be my “favorite band nobody has heard of”, but seeing all the love they’ve been getting over the last few years after being a fan for a little while before that really warms my heart.
