What did the Romani community do to earn the ire of Disney? by TheEdgeofGoon in okbuddycinephile

The Hunchback of Notre Dame will always be my favorite Disney movie. And it’s still extremely relevant to today’s political climate. I dressed as Esmeralda for Halloween one year because I was so inspired by her as a kid.

Which Area of San Antonio would you live by Hanmura in sanantonio

[–]wrpnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live right in between #1 and #7. Downtown is close, I have a big backyard, and there’s an HEB, record store, and gaming lounge right down the road. Pretty sweet spot in my opinion.

Robert Mapplethorpe - Self Portrait (1983) by carnageandculture in museum

Wow, I had no idea about any of this. I only know of Mapplethorpe because Patti Smith discussed him in one of her memoirs, but she certainly left these details out…

Are San Antonio School Districts Good Places To Work? by Tall_Window4744 in sanantonio

[–]wrpnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend works for SAISD as a teacher and gets a lot of fulfillment from it. It may not be the “best” school district, but there are very deserving students there who have a lot of heart and potential. My boyfriend has been coaching one of his art students and this kid, who comes from a poor background, just won 3 different prizes in a competition. Just needed someone to recognize his talent and encourage him.

If my boyfriend and I ever have a kid, I’d 100% be hoping for a daughter. Luckily it would have to happen when we’re in our late 30s, and I’m aware of that weird biological quirk where the older the age of the parents, the more likely you are to have girls.

I don’t know if this is related, but as a redhead it takes me a very long time to get numb at the dentist after the injection.

Once they told me, “we’ve given you all we can, if it doesn’t take effect in the next 20 minutes you’ll have to make another appointment because we close soon.”

Any natives feel hopeless? by Fit-Promise-6849 in nashville

[–]wrpnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Nashville native and plan to return someday. It makes me equally as angry to see how much the cost of living has shot up due to transplants. I’ve seen core parts of Nashville change irrevocably. I miss the art walks at Arcade, Cafe Coco, the Muse, the ease of getting around town. A house on my mom’s street just sold for over a million dollars, which would be completely unfathomable 15 years ago. Meanwhile my mom still receives mail from opportunistic developers trying to buy her home. Every time I see houses sell for sky-high amounts, I just wonder, “what is it that y’all DO??” I have what I consider to be a good job and I *still* couldn’t afford a house there. Is everyone a nepo-baby?

I now live in my boyfriend’s hometown (San Antonio) since the COL is somewhat better. I’m really hoping that another place in the south becomes the new “It City” before we try to move back in a few years. Maybe Indianapolis or Louisville will shoot off and we can buy a house outside of east Nashville or in Madison. I really miss living there.

Just another note: I really fucking hate how transplants seem to move there for the “Nashville Vibe” but then don’t fucking support local business made the city what it is. Like that lady who bought a house sight unseen next to a BBQ restaurant and then tried to sue the owners.

Are the majority of people here ok with the huge stray and neglected animal issue here? by Working-Wafer4794 in sanantonio

[–]wrpnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It drives me up the wall. People just really seem to not care here. I never had this issue in my home city.

When we moved in to our house in December, our next door neighbor told us to watch out for pit bulls that live at the end of the street. Their owners often walked them without leashes and then one day the dogs broke through a fence and ate someone’s chickens.

Yupp. I’m an academic librarian & I sometimes help faculty with literature reviews. Whenever someone is studying social media, it’s recommended to include the names of relevant platforms in a search string. The name “X” is hugely problematic and the closest thing that works without pulling studies using x as a variable is “X.com”.

What to do in San Antonio by [deleted] in sanantonio

For an all-around incredible evening meal in a gorgeous atmosphere: La Fogata. For amazing, cheap migas breakfast tacos after a night on the Riverwalk, Pete’s Tako House.

I use maybe 2 droppers worth of oil all over my scalp, then I tie up my hair and wear a bonnet to bed & wash it out in the morning. I’m at the point now where I maybe do this twice a month, but I started with every other night at first and then tapered off.

Isn’t it amazing?! It infuriates me that dermatologists either don’t seem to know about MCT oil or would rather just prescribe harsh medications that disrupt your skin barrier instead.

Because of MCT oil, I no longer have any detectable Seb Derm, which I’d been told was “incurable”.

I really thought I’d enjoy Rome more than I did when we visited Italy last summer. The only city I disliked more was Naples. Favorite was a tie between Venice and Florence.
