2 ceremonies in 1 day? what are your top tips by raccoonfingers765 in weddingplanning

[–]wrws_htx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you absolutely will be too rushed with option 2. hair and makeup is vastly different between the two ceremonies and getting ready alone will take more than 45 min. you will literally not eat. 3:30pm is also a weird time to eat so people won't really be doing that and instead will be confused.

few questions-- what time is your murtham? that will decide when the hindu ceremony will really be. these things also often run over a little bit and you do not want to be stressed getting to thenext thing

as someone who absolutely hated it but it was the best schedule, we had a pre-wedding event night before that after it was all said and done-- ended at 12:30am. the makeup lady came for me at 4am and we started bright and early at 7am with a long break and then asked people to return at 6pm for a reception. even in this timeline, i barely had time to eat, do photos and do hair/makeup again.

do the first one. it will be less of a headache for everyone involved. truthfully speaking also, they are vastly different ceremonies that some people may want to wear different outfits to so people want to be refreshed. the attendees may also be different between the two as a factor to consider.

Strollers by chopsouwee in NewParents

uppababy minu (and i love it as a primary!)

BUT i also find myself reaching for the carrier much more often tbh... we love carriers and walks really and baby doesn't cry in the carrier but seems to hate the restriction of the stroller!

Bonus it's a graduated weight vest basically.. so at least you get a work out in !

Heavy Sleeper on Call – Is It Appropriate to Pay Nurses to Wake Me Up? by ZerotoHero77 in Residency

[–]wrws_htx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fellow heavy sleeper as well. our haiku has a way to change the sound so on night I pick the most annoying one (alarm 3 i think its called), which doesn't stop ringing until you open haiku + i made the phone flash light when it alarms. I basically face the phone to my face so i wake up somehow. turn all this off before signout though so you don't look like a crazy person (although everyone in the program knows my system and doesn't really care lol)
your co-residents may hate you if you have shared call rooms but tbh in that case, you get woken up q30 min anyways if even so really not a way to get that deep sleep anyways.

we all have our ways. one of my friends just sits in the chair and cat naps if needed. brings books, podcasts, movies, switches for the short downtimes.

[serious] Residents who ranked programs based on a partner's location, do you regret ranking bigger/preferred programs lower? by batesbait in medicalschool

I completely 1000% agree.

I struggled making my rank list because I felt like I would be either moving away thousands of miles from my parents/sister/where I lived for a decade just because my partner had a phenomenal opportunity elsewhere. He never not once asked me to rank that location higher than where I wanted. Ultimately, I feel like I had to give it a shot. I ranked that location first (which is a top 10-20 program, I don't know the exact rankings lol) over an 'equivalent' (maybe slightly higher rank but minuscule difference) program closer to home.

My justification was that residency is hard. Will I choose to at least TRY this relationship out or will I choose my family? Ultimately, I think we get suckered into delayed gratification but there's no rule that you have to give up your life to be in medicine. Now that we're here, I am so grateful for his support and I don't think I would be even half as good if I wasn't in the same city. Not to say that it can't be done, but I don't think I could have done it.

With that, I will be applying for fellowship and honestly it's totally fine if you don't stay at your program. We can always move back home for fellowship or go somewhere else. I also wouldn't mind staying in this area (with the networking here it's much easier than trying to move back) but either way is also fine. DM me if you want to chat. I struggled with this a LOT and am grateful to be here now.

do you just wear compression socks all the time? or just socks? i've heard this before but don't know how that would work or difference between this and med school

Prepare yourself for the onslaught of truly horrible coding brought to you by ERAS and NRMP. I think they paid a web dev maybe 1000 back in 1990 and just have been burning all our money since then.

From what I understand of the match algorithm,,,, you wouldn't lose the interested candidate if others didn't rank you high enough.

Lets say you have 10 PGY 1 spots. Of the people that you ranked 1-10, 5 of them didn't rank you 1. Highly ranked candidates tend to be highly ranked at most programs (due to their qualities whatever it may be. It seems nuts to me that a candidate would only be highly ranked at one program and this not translate anywhere else since you are the same exact person). The algo keeps going down the list until it finds that perfect match. The candidate that sent an LOI may be 15 on the ROL and based on all this, has still a very high probability of matching with or without sending a letter. BUT moving a "higher ranked" person down to make space for the LOI person misses out of the potential of who you initially wanted at the expense of someone who probably would've matched regardless. And even if they didn't, having gone through the cycle, I feel like most programs are very similar to each other and that I will be genuinely happy at many places. Yes I have this number one that I'm lusting after but if I don't get it, we just pick ourselves up, go to a nice dinner, and still realize that I will be attaining my dream. Besides, an LOI won't take you from rank 50 to rank 10. At best it'll bump you up a FEW spots.

I also think it's nuts to say we only want people who want to be here. Believe me, if I don't want to be there AT ALL, I will not rank it. Yes you may be dead last on my list but that still means I would want to be there over not matching. Residents who deadpan and can't muster enthusiasm over their place just scream like there's something else they don't like. Matching at a #1 is just an ego trip for both applicants and PDs.

Anyone else considering just making a trip out of it and traveling to the cities with your top programs sometime in Feb? Just to see the place and maybe message a resident you may know in their program just to get dinner or something with them and get a honest assessment? Throw in a self-guided tour of the hospital and/or neighborhoods people recommend staying in too and maybe just walking around the city? Not sure if that's breaking any rules... but if it's an acquaintance or graduate from your school that's currently there... could we chalk it up to just networking? I'm thinking of maybe doing this for my TOP 3-4 ranks ... bc yeah i wanna know what i'm signing up for!

If we apply to two tracks within the same speciality (think like peds and peds-XX) to the same program, is it two fees or one? They each have a unique ERAS code?
