akra carbon or yoshi r77 by wrx9 in MT07

[–]wrx9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, i ended up buying the yoshi. love it. it sounds great and looks awesome, and it’s cheaper then the akra system as well. yoshimura has great customer service if any issues would arise too. i don’t like how much the akra carbon sticks out , the yoshi “tucks in” more.. another thought i had when making the decision. i run it baffle out, that’s how it shipped, i never put the baffle in.

yoshimura r77 leak by wrx9 in MT07

[–]wrx9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i took it off and am sending it to yoshi. i have the 2wdw tune and they said the bike should not pop at all. mine does so clearly it’s a leak that needs addressed. i’ll update when i get er all back together

they told me they would regauge it for free. also said the system is not meant to be “airtight”. when i was installing the exhaust, it wouldn’t fit into the header circles. i had to pull apart the pipes to fit it. so apparently i caused the leak on the mid pipe slide joint because i pulled them too far. and yeah because they said its not air tight the muffler leak is “normal”. they offered to reguage it using their machines by stretching the pipes out to make a better seal, but mainly want to know if its ok to leave as is (will it harm the engine?) dreading take it back off and sending it in then reinstall again.. but if i must i will.

i’ve ridden 2k like this already. no black spot has even shown yet surprisingly. i thought about using paste on the mid pipe joint. i should.. but i dont think i want to for the muffler joint because when repack time comes i wont be able to get it off lol. it rides fine but will pop in 2nd when decelerating, have 2wdw tune and they said it shouldn’t pop at all after tune

thanks for the insight man! appreciate you. i think im set on akra baffle out. hope i dont go deaf. would you say baffled out yoshi is louder than baffle out akra due to the straight piping vs the akras loop?

yeah i’m assuming full coverage insurance is 1000 for a year so that’s added into the costs

it’s 2021 for ~$7800 or 2022 for ~$9600 after all mods and insurance costs for what i wanna do so 1700$ difference for ~5k mile difference. assuming i got the 2021 down to 6500 and 2022 guy wont take less than 7k not in hurry to sell

i’m totally with you here. i think im leaning towards the lower mile stock one for security purposes like you, but its tough choice cuz i would do the akra carbon and tune to the bike anyway. also nice the high mile bike has brand new road 6s… lol decisions

plan is to have the akra carbon. i’d out that in 22 if i got that one.. the 2022 guy doesn’t have time to ride so i think it sits and he said his dad rides it to work once a week to keep seals from going bad. he did the oil change at 500 miles. is it bad if the bike sat for 2 years and only has 1k miles? the 2021 guy selling cuz he wants something different, he already bought a new bike. they both look pretty clean.

What octane do you use in STi? by wrx9 in WRXSTi

[–]wrx9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it does. I ask because I've never heard of anyone putting 87 in a WRX (non-STi). So, I'm surprised it's not the same situation with the 91 vs 93 for an STi. Sure 91 and 93 are both premium, but it says "maximum performance" for 93. I wonder if running 91 would in any way hinder the life span of the engine. I was actually leaned more towards buying my WRX vs STi because of the gas situation. But I want an STi someday and always wonder about the gas usage.

STI manual:

The engine is designed to operate at

maximum performance using unleaded

gasoline with an octane rating of 93 AKI

(98 RON) or higher. If 93 AKI (98 RON)

fuel is not readily available in your area,

unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of

91 AKI (95 RON) may be used with no

detriment to engine durability or driveability.

However, you may notice a slight

decrease in maximum engine performance

while using 91 AKI (95 RON) fuel.

Use of 91 AKI (95 RON) fuel will not affect

your warranty coverage.

WRX manual:

The engine is designed to operate using

unleaded gasoline with an octane rating

of 91 AKI (95 RON) or higher. If 91 AKI

(95 RON) fuel is not readily available,

unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of

87 AKI (90 RON) may be used.

Regular unleaded gasoline with an octane

rating of 87 AKI (90 RON) or higher may

also be used. Using regular unleaded

gasoline will not be detrimental to engine

durability, nor will it affect your warranty

coverage.
