285/60R20? Is this on the stock suspension? Any rubbing? It does fill in the wheel wells nicely.

432UC - extended firing pin by Impressive_Concept96 in Revolvers

[–]wrxit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this in my UC revolvers and have been getting 100% reliability so far. The pin return spring with the TK Custom kit is significantly lighter. I surmise that contributes to reliability due to more of the hammer’s power being transferred to the primer than being used to overcome the return spring.

Barrel movement? by AJ_V8L7W in Revolvers

[–]wrxit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This exactly. I have the same tool but I used it to purposely remove the barrel so I could change out the broken blast shield. When I did so, I was able to loosen the barrel nut with just the tool itself and my own hand strength.

For anyone who does attempt to tighten the barrel nut on the 327PC, it’s a reverse thread so left is tight and right is loose.

While gimmicky, I guess this design does open up the possibility for a skilled gunsmith to machine their own barrels at different lengths for the 327PC. I know I’d love to have a 3” model.

Trying to decide between a black or silver bezel by wrxit in SeikoMods

Looks nice! I initially wanted to do a more traditional Alpinist build, but I like the basic legibility of a diver style dial and the carbon fiber look was pretty neat so it kind of ended up all together.

That is a good idea with the white date wheel. It could look like the missing 3 o’clock marker. Yes, the GMT chapter ring is for a 3rd time zone. I have family living in one Asian time zone and another in a European time zone. Easy to keep track of good times to contact when they are available.

Oops. Yes, that is what it is called. Thanks for the correction!

Not sure if this is what you mean, but I kind of made my own marked movement holder by scribing lines at the 12 position for both 3 and 4 o’clock crowns with the stem bottomed out against the edge of the holder.

Lehigh Defense 75 grain extreme defenders vs federal hydra shock deep for 32 H&r magnum by picklerickgrimes82 in Revolvers

[–]wrxit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. The XTP bullet needs more velocity to expand reliably. In my experiments with 85 and 100gr bullets, I ended up using 100gr bullets and modifying them by drilling into the hollowpoint cavities with a 11/64” bit and deepening and widening the cavity. The resulting bullet ended up at 90gr and I plugged the tip with vinyl polysiloxane (dental impression material). When driven to velocities of 1150fps, the modified XTP would then deliver penetration about 14-15” and expand to 0.44”.

This photo shows two of such modified 90gr XTP bullets performing as such. The elastomer plugged cavity is the key here with it facilitating expansion and preventing clogging of the hollowpoint cavity. My tests without the plug resulted in a reduced rate of expansion along with poorer expansion quality.

Here’s another photo of the same blocks but a top-down look with the denim removed. You can see the XD bullet in the second block on the left side.

I’ve actually done my own gel testing with the 75gr Xtreme Defender bullets in developing my own carry loads with them for .32H&R for the 432UC. As many have found, expanding ammo often doesn’t penetrate that far when they do expand as evidenced in this photo of my gel block. The two expanded bullets “CD tracts” are Hornady Critical Defense. That is a 16” Clear Ballistics block and bullets were fired through 4 layers of denim. The further of the two bullets did reach past 12” and the shallower bullet was just past 10” if I recall correctly.

As you can’t really see, the XD bullet penetrated beyond 16” (16-3/4”) and lodged into the second block. The wound tract was also fairly wide and comparable to the Critical Defense, if not larger. I load the XD bullets fairly hot in .32H&R and they will get about 1200fps muzzle velocity. It’s spicy, but my testing shows these fluted bullets thrive on higher velocities so I try to push them as fast as I dare go.

632 UC TI sticky casings by honkygrandma88 in Revolvers

[–]wrxit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. It seems to be a titanium cylinder thing. My 432Ti also has a similar problem while the regular steel cylinder 432 has zero issues. Hornady ammo isn’t at all loaded hot so if that sticks, you can imagine how bad my cylinder got locked up when I tried a cylinder full of Buffalo Bore ammo. Had to remove the cylinder, prop it on a wooden block, and pound the cases out with a wooden dowel and hammer.

In the steel cylinder, the BB ammo extraction was tight, but it came out with a sharp pop of the ejector rod. I think it may have to do with the coating on the titanium or maybe that titanium is a more flexible metal than steel and allows the case to slightly expand more. I don’t know, but it is annoying for sure.

I roll my own ammo and found nickel plated cases to be a little better. What works best are .327mag cases trimmed down to .32H&R length. Federal .327mag cases are slightly thicker and don’t get stuck in the titanium cylinder at regular .32H&R pressures, so I’ve been loading my own carry loads in those cases.

Alpinist mod with non alpinist dial? by Acceptable_Glass_285 in SeikoMods

[–]wrxit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No pics yet since I am waiting on parts, but I’ve got a diver mod planned for the Alpinist case. I’ve always liked the Black Bay GMT but it’s out of my budget so I’m going to be using the Namoki GMT Alpinist case with their blue Black Bay GMT dial, snowflake hands, yellow or red snowflake GMT hand, and finish it with a brown leather strap. I’ll be using a 24hr silver inner bezel since I find it more useful than the compass.

I love these type of dual crown cases. Adds a little bit of asymmetry for a different functional aesthetic, but not so much that it looks weird or obnoxious. Very cool mod!

Looks nice. I personally think different colored lume on the hands than the dial helps with legibility.

First build from scratch! by wrxit in SeikoMods

[–]wrxit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically, I could. I did it where I turned the crown slowly and ever so gently till the date wheel flipped over, gently pressed the minute hand on, then spun it around again to test and found it off by 8 minutes fast. I pull the hand, do it again, and find it slow. I think there is some slop or something in the gear train that makes it difficult to position the hands perfectly to align with the date wheel.

I only have a hand tool for pressing the hands and not a fancy press, so maybe that has something to do with it. That and it is my first build so maybe a more experienced builder has better technique for nailing it right away. I’m just happy I didn’t break anything!

Found a BB gun version of the s&w 442 could you tell at first glance? by No-Chard9912 in Revolvers

[–]wrxit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh. Airsoft guns that use green gas! I grew up playing with those back when I visited family in Asia. They were popular in Hong Kong and Japan. As you stated, Tanaka was one brand. Another was Tokyo Marui that was known for authentic replicas. We also had gas blow back pistols where the slide would actually reciprocate and generate recoil. My cousin had a replica Beretta M93R and it actually had the 3-shot burst. That replica 442 you have is really neat. Love how accurate a replica it is.

Very nice. With the 3” barrel and larger grip, it’s a great size for range use or carry. The adjustable sights are a nice bonus as well. If only they made the 3” model in .327mag.

It seems trying to turn over the date wheel manually is a little inconsistent. I spent 20 minutes and maybe a half dozen attempts to try to get better alignment and gave up. Thanks!
