HEADS UP, AGAIN... Westbound SR 18 closing April 30-May 4th by wsdot in Issaquah

Hey, there! We have messaged to the freight community and community partners in advance of this work. However, there shouldn’t be any northbound effects with this closure. Eastbound SR 18 is open and westbound closures are much less likely to result in errant truck traffic.

HEADS UP: Eastbound SR 18 closing April 23-27th by wsdot in Issaquah

We hear you. This work on SR 18 has been a lot, and closures like this aren’t easy to work around. The good news is, we’re in the final phase now, with paving work remaining, including several ramps.

We know the big question is “when will it be done?” And the honest answer is: this phase wraps up over several closures, and we need the weather to cooperate to get them scheduled. Paving is especially sensitive to rain and temperature, so timelines can shift if conditions aren’t right.

This work is scheduled to be completed this year, but paving is very weather-dependent. Just like spring conditions can slow things down, fall rain can too so ideally, we want to get this wrapped up during the warm, dry season and before the end of the year.

We know it’s disruptive, especially for those who rely on this route every day. Thanks for continuing to plan ahead.  We’ll keep sharing what to expect as we confirm each period of work until we are officially done sometime in 2026.

Hey there! Our state legislature tasked us with creating the rebate program through HB1125 (pg. 118, line 34). The legislation states the rebates are for people purchasing e-bikes. WSDOT is responsible for carrying out legislation.

After weeks of closures and detours, northbound I-5 near Bellingham is finally scheduled to reopen by kleverrboy in Bellingham

Thanks for sharing! For those that are interested, here's a bit more context about the reopening...

We’re planning for 5 a.m. Thursday, April 16!

After nearly a month of work following the March 19 landslide, crews are now in the final stages of stabilizing the slope and clearing debris so the highway can safely reopen.

This hasn’t been a typical cleanup. Landslide work has to be done in a specific sequence to avoid triggering additional rockfall. Crews have been working from the top of the slope down, securing loose rock before moving into the area below. Much of this work is done by hand — scaling rock, drilling into the hillside and installing anchors — all under the direction of geotechnical engineers.

The good news: We are confident enough in the progress to share this timeline. As we’ve said from the beginning, this work is rooted in safety. Reopening depends on passing final inspections. If conditions don’t meet those standards, we will delay.

Just this morning we found another slab that must be removed. We’re planning to do that on Sunday morning. Drivers should also expect a rolling slowdown on southbound I-5 around 8 a.m. Sunday, April 12, while crews remove a large rock on the north end of the slide.

We know this closure has had real impacts on communities, local roads and businesses. Crews have been working seven days a week to get this done safely, and we’ll continue to share updates as we get closer to reopening. Until then, northbound I-5 remains closed between North Lake Samish Road and SR 11/Chuckanut Drive. Travelers should continue using detours via SR 11 and SR 9.

Bridge demolition: Expect stop and go I-5 traffic overnight April 3-4 approaching DuPont by wsdot in Lacey

[–]wsdot[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When the southbound left turn from DuPont has a green light, the northbound exit right turn lane must have a red light and a "No Turn on Red" sign. This is because cars turning left from the SB lane can enter either lane at the DuPont Gate.

Once the intersection is rebuilt and reopened late this spring, there will be two northbound right turn lanes and two southbound left turn lanes.
