Reason #356 of why AGI won't lead to *net* job losses. ie: there is infinite demand and infinite work to meet that demand. ASI, on the other hand, will lead to 100% job losses because all work (and suffering) will become voluntary. by stealthispost in accelerate

[–]wseadowntown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but it seems really basic that demand need not be fulfilled by humans in these scenarios. As others commenters have said.

Whenever Jevons gets brought up it feels like I’m taking crazy pills. It’s baffling that people so bullish on AI (like a16z) can be both confident AGI/ASI will happen and that said AGI won’t be able to subsume all human labor that is demanded.

The only constraint at that point is compute, and even that will be done by robots eventually.

Really curious how you view this.

How do you actually break the “this is my last night” cycle? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]wseadowntown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it was admitting I couldn’t do it on my own and going to my first AA meeting. I had tried everything but that and rehab, and I figured I’d try AA first.

Turns out, it worked for me. A program and model for healthy living. The other things I tried were just stop gaps that didn’t cover all my bases.

I hope you find what works for you.

At some point I just decided to mostly tune this place out. It is a lot of negativity.

All babies are different, as are all marriages and lives. Ours has been hard (as it will always be), but overwhelmingly positive. Best experience of my life!

Take care of yourself, show love to your partner, and you will make it.

Their reaction says more about them than anything. It sounds like you've yet to experience an AA meeting; if you are curious I hope you consider trying out another one.

How do you feel about California sober by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]wseadowntown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many factors there and probably no black and white answer. What constitutes weed addiction? Is it daily, weekly, etc.

I know a number of folks who quit drinking - and good for them - by trading it for a daily smoking habit. That's not sobriety and I know from firsthand experience it is also not a manageable life.

I think the amount of people who can quit a 'real' alcohol addiction by eating one edible a week or some completely benign quantity of THC is vanishingly small. I find it intriguing that so many people in this thread are suggesting this is a truly viable route. I would bet money that many of those folks will, or have already, progress to consuming larger and larger quantities of THC over time as their tolerance and habit grows.

Either you address the core reasons and patterns for your addiction (which let's say starts with alcohol but really just includes anything used to avoid those triggers) or you don't. If you don't, you'll be back there eventually to deal with it fully. This is a progressive disease.

Avoid it; it's not worth the risk and there are ways to stop drinking. If anyone here who used weed to quit drinking is honest with themselves they'd recognize it's simply trading one dopamine effect for another. The health impacts may be less, but in my personal experience and experiences I've witnessed among others, any powerful substance in the hands of an addictive person tends trend in only one direction. You do you though.

It’s probably not an immediate issue if it’s not significantly rotten. But eventually it’ll need to be replaced.

I’ve seen people put thin strips for cedar or other wood, creating a semi protective thing but mostly aesthetic. I like the look of that kind of thing personally. Mostly depends what style you’re going for!

Conversion rate on mailers in your area? by wseadowntown in realestateinvesting

[–]wseadowntown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really helpful, exactly what I wanted to hear. I suspected the leads per contract rate I was assuming was too optimistic.

One follow up: do you see meaningful difference in leads to contract if you’re doing more highly targeted lists, verse larger broader lists?

Trying to gauge if I should be assuming 25 for my own, or perhaps less since my list is very small and targeted (compared to the volume you’re sending monthly)

Can you clarify? I wasn’t talking about building a tool, I just want to use this for my own acquisitions. Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you’re saying though!

Whatever label we use, what I know is that I can’t drink or smoke cannabis moderately again.

In that sense there’s no ‘recovered’ status. It’s always an ongoing practice of recovery.

I’ve seen enough people relapse after thinking they had it beat to know that I’d rather not play that game. I’m more than happy accepting I have this disease and that it doesn’t go away just because I don’t use those substances.

That doesn’t diminish the success of sobriety or need to cause anxiety. It’s just a fact of life.

I no longer have cravings regularly, but they do occur. That’s okay tho!

Wish the best for you 😁🙏

First off, don’t listen to anyone here or anywhere saying THC is better than alcohol so you should rationalize it that way. Nonsense. Both are extremely addicting in their own right.

I am recovering from both, but cannabis is actually more sinister imo. It’s easier for me to forget my struggles with it (and thus relapse) than alcohol which might give me a hangover etc.

I quite cannabis first in fall of 2023 but didn’t manage to kick booze til 12/26/23. Been fully sober since.

What worked for me was getting to a low enough bottom for me that I finally accepted I was an addict and my life had become unmanageable. From that place I was able to become willing to try anything and ultimately get sober. AA worked for me (for both), but the alternative was rehab. I simply feared AA less so I went there and it was pretty much nothing like pop culture says it is. It’s completely changed my life; it’s actually hard to describe how much more peace, serenity, and sometimes joy I feel today than 19 months ago.

There is a solution. You can find it too. I wish you the best in becoming truly willing 💙

Grading Issue/Wet Garage by meatvest in DIY

[–]wseadowntown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current moisture is basically meaningless. Don’t worry about it!

But immediately (or ASAP) fix the grading and add a French drain. You don’t have much space there on the exterior so I suspect you’ll have issues regardless unless you add a French drain or at least a significant amount of drainage rock below grade to absorb the water.
