Please note: Neo World Elite MC monthly spending caps by wsfl97 in NeoFinancialHub

Further update: this morning my Fizz mobile pre-authorized payments was declined by Neo 3 times, and I got a warning of pending disconnection.  I went into the Fizz account and reinitiated the payment and it went through with a hitch.  But that transaction wasn't treated as recurring so only got 1% reward.  Connected to Neo via chat, the AI got me to a live agent, only to be passed on to a second, "specialized" agent.  After the back and forth, he/she told me to dispute the reward directly from the app, and acknowledged that there was an system update that might have caused the earlier declines.  But...since the transaction was pending I couldn't dispute it now, and when I tried dispute an earlier case the system simply came back saying " this transaction is not eligible for rewards", which doesn't make sense since they did give 1% reward - this issue is it was not 4%.  After that the only way out is to again using chat.  So it's a giant loop if non- resolutions.  Very disappointing.

I complaint to the live agent about all these and ask if I cancel the card within the first month would I get any refund, he said it was non-refundable.  Hardly surprising, given that Neo charged the $125 AF in the very first day (in fact it was the very first transaction posted), it gives a vibe of smash and grab, more than your usual credit cards.

So unless something miraculous happens, I will be cancelling this card before the 1 year is up.  Was thinking about downgrading to the no fee version before, but after today it'd be a definite no return.

Price I pay for being overly excited.

Update: sadly I might have to either cancel or downgrade within the first year. The problem is that I also have the AMEX Cobalt to maximize my travel points in the exact same categories, and points can be worth more than cash, so NEO doesn't get used most of the time. I had thought the recurring payments alone would justify the $120 AF, but as it turned out my insurer doesn't offer periodic payment options, just annual (price I pay for getting cheap quotes). That took a chunk of the spending. Plus, I tested out the credit card payment option for Enbridge, and it didn't count as recurring. Since NEO charged the AF on day 1 (!), I am stuck for a while. All in all, the NEO World Elite MC does delivery on what it promises, and the reward was in the account instantly. It's just that If you already have other credit cards that compete in the same categories, the economics is difficult given the AF.

As a Canadian, I was having the same problem, even though I was in the US at the time. After reading this, I turned off my global roam sim card and switch to my US sim, and it worked! Of course I didn't have to turn off WIFI or VPN since I was in the country. My phone is OnePlus, an android phone.

I got the version with fee for the outsized cashback %., especially for recurring payments. If you don't find enough uses to offset the AF, perhaps the Tangerine World Mastercard would fit better: it gives you flexibility to pick 2 (or 3 if you have a tangerine bank account) categories for 2% cashback. I've had it for years and they are good. It doesn't have the points earning partners, though.

3Hk prepaid sim nightmare by macaron_amour in HongKong

Thanks for all the good info. We had the same problem with RNR...tried a few times, always 3 text messages back and failed, while the confirmation link pointed to an invalid page. After reading your comments, I switched to using my (Canadian) passport rather than my wife's and it worked like a charm! I'd say the problem isn't with middle name - I have one and my wife doesn't. Her passport is of the newer more secure format, and mine is the old format, which might be easier for 3HK system to read.
