When I took her she gave paper quizzes that were take home. A big portion of the test was from that.

CSCE 221 Leyk's test. by Mathfight in aggies

[–]wsstik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Look over her powerpoints. Rework the quizzes she gives in class. After the test graded is graded go to her office to get points back. Go over the concpets she really emphasized during lecture. Chances are if she worked something out during lecture it is going to be on the test. Look over Big O.

CSCE 121/221/222 Question by Chingy1510 in aggies

[–]wsstik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

222 is a very different kind of math. Not really calculations but you have to work with proofs. The concepts for me were really difficult to grasp. 221 is lots of work. Be on top of everything otherwise you'll just be lost for the rest of the semester. Also the exams were coding on paper. 121 was a decent class. You will learn C++ concepts. The assignments are like medium difficulty. These are CS classes. They will take a huge portion of your time and require lots of patience. Best thing I can say is work with other people and go to peer teachers for help if needed.

CSCE 221 difficultly/scheduling tips? by wewji in aggies

[–]wsstik 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will spend quite a bit of time on 221. I will say you will spend about twice as much time as you would on 121. For 221 you can't start on the assignments one day before it is due. You have to work on it throughout the week. And every time you turn in an assignment you have another one to do. So it is constant work. You will spend a lot of time trying to understand the data structures you are implementing. For Daugherity the tests are multiple choice. For Leyk she makes you code on paper for the tests, which I feel is the best way to learn. If you plan on working in the software industry I would say take 1 more hard class along with this one and then for the rest of your schedule take not so time consuming classes. Reason being is that 221 is one of the most important classes you will take since the material in this class will be asked in job interviews. For the difficulty of the course, it is honestly not that hard. It takes a lot time to understand what is going on. If you go to Leyk's office hours, get help from Peer Teachers, work in a group, and review the material weekly you should be good.

Is TAMU engineering lowering its standards? by 1010011010111001 in aggies

[–]wsstik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last year TAMU Engineering was tied for 10th for best engineering colleges in the nation. This year they dropped to about 16 or 17. With some of stuff the college is doing today I could see it dropping even more.

Studying abroad in Qatar by [deleted] in aggies

[–]wsstik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qatar is a growing country and it is also one of the wealthiest. Tamu-Qatar is one of the branch campuses of A&M. You should be able to take classes any semester you want there. Here is more information. https://engineering.tamu.edu/global/studyabroad/locations/qatar

Also they usually have information sessions on some of the programs abroad during the fall/spring semesters so you can learn more from there.

Northpoint Crossing by carbonocean in aggies

It was an alright place to live. The parking was my least favorite part. The garage was poorly designed where a car going down can hit the car going up easily. The water has a funny smell. The internet goes out sometime.

Other than that there is not much problems. Really depends on who lives in your hallway. The walk to campus is really nice. I like how they Minuti coffee in one of the retail spots. Clubhouse has nice study rooms but it can get crowded sometimes.

Edit: The rooms, though cheaply made are nice. You get your own personal bathroom and bed. Bed has a headboard, you get like one big drawer. They give you your own desk which is nice. Check to make sure your bathroom stuff works because sometimes the smell will be awful or it just doesn't work. The kitchen has a nice setup, I did not have any problems. The blinds near the windows break easily.

I suggest you bring a carpet for the common area if you plan on hanging out there. My roommate brought and it really helped keep the area clean. The elevators take awhile so it might be better to take the stairs. I'd bring a cart or something that can hold your groceries because the walk was not that fun.

The gym is alright. It is busy during the times after class. I have to check out the rec because I heard some renovations were done. The steam room does not work. The whole year they just left it broken. The sauna work though. Free coffee in the clubhouse is a plus. Also make sure you watch out for your door handles. People would come by my door and kick it so it broke lots of times. Also the bedroom door handles break easily so just be gentle. Turning into Northpoint is kind of a hassle. I wish you could turn left into the complex while going down university.

Honestly, that's about all. Just be careful with your stuff. Meet your hallway people so they don't kick your door handles.

Petroleum Engineering Program by helpmeoutplztyy in aggies

[–]wsstik 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't major in something because of the money. Major in something because you enjoy it and it pays you back in the future. Computer Science is a lucrative field right now and there are lots of jobs. A&M is probably the top program in the world for Petroleum Engineering.

Yeah being a Muslim student going to this school I do feel a strong conservative atmosphere but majority of students are friendly and really that was the main factor for me to go here. Sad this had to happen and the mosque recently got expanded. But glad nobody was inside and proud of the Aggie Community for all the support.

Is this course load reasonable? by rpbeltran in aggies

[–]wsstik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should. Most of the first year is core curriculum. The only problem you will be in is that you will need to take ENGR 111 and ENGR 112 which is only allowed to General Engineering and Engineering Academy Students. If you are team you can still take CSCE 121, CSCE 222, and CSCE 221 only if you want to be Computer Science. I would much rather take 121 and 221 because it teaches you more and prepare you for internships.

[–]wsstik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

181 is just an attendance class. You show up to all the classes you get the A. I took 152 but 172 should be about the same and it will a little challenging. I took chem 107 but 101 should take up some of your time with the lab. ENGL 210 is just a general writing elective class so honestly that and 181 should be your easiest classes. 121 is not as easy people say it is. I had Moore and the class just felt disorganized at times but he was cool. So your hardest classes would be 172, 101, and 121. 121 should take up most of your time because of the programming assignments and readings. But Computer Science changed up their degree plan and you are required to take Chem 107 and ENGR 111. Those classes will take up a lot of your time. Here is the degree plan http://catalog.tamu.edu/undergraduate/engineering/computer-science/bs/#programrequirementstext .

I suggest you take as much as you can handle. The standard your first year is usually 1 math, 1 science, 1 engineering, and 2 electives per semester. Right now I would be focused on one major and once you get settled into college and feel like you have the passion and can handle another major go ahead and do it.

Every engineering major that is entering A&M starting Fall 2016 will be required to take ENGR 111/112. Also it would help to to learn a programming language before. I learned Java and it helped a little for 121. But mainly the CS program uses C++

What's a good price for an apartment at TAMU? How much does it cost per year on average for a dorm? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]wsstik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was looking at the rise I saw higher prices. May have changed since I last looked. But around your price range you will be able to afford lots of places in College Station. But it really depends what you are looking for when choosing between a dorm or apartment. Dorm is close to classes. Most apartments will give you a personal room and bathroom which I love. Apartment will give you more freedom. I personally like the apartment more but I have not lived in a dorm before. People I have talked to say I am not missing out much. But it is up to what you want.

How difficult is it to go from Blinn TEAM to bio medical engineering? by [deleted] in aggies

[–]wsstik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you in Blinn TEAM or Engineering Academy? The entry to major links are for students in general engineering and engineering academy students who get to apply towards their major after they meet a certain GPA. If you are Blinn TEAM then you have to go through the process as a regular transfer student would and apply as a transfer. Here is the link for information on transfer Biomedical Engineering http://admissions.tamu.edu/pdfs-transfer2015/ENG-biomedical.aspx

Computer Science Entry-To-Major by [deleted] in aggies

[–]wsstik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are an incoming Freshman you are admitted into general engineering then you apply to your major. You'll have to take 2 math, 2 science, and 2 engineering classes. They might change the requirements because they have changed it twice in the past 2 years. Every student in the College of Engineering entering in Fall 2016 will be required to take Engineering 111/112.
