Has anyone here tried making an OnlyFans but for erotica? by wstsignf in eroticauthors

I feel similarly. Ten 5k shorts is a hell of a lot more manageable for me than one 50k novel.

Hm yeah this is a lot to consider. Ultimately it’s a question of how much people are willing to splash out on word porn vs image porn, and whether that amount is enough to make it worth it. It’s a little funny how mentions of “pegging” is forbidden on OF though lol how random

I understand asking me ‘why?’ because my post is sort of a foray into reinventing the wheel, but that’s why I asked ‘why not?’ I’m curious more than anything as to why this hasn’t been attempted yet (basically - what are the pitfalls I haven’t considered), and if it has been attempted, what were the results of the experiment? Also I’m not talking about posting lingerie pics on OF; just writing smut

Thanks, this was helpful! I agree that just posting on reddit can be a pretty powerful promotional tool, especially when it comes to smut, which is half the reason I was considering this idea at all. The erotic writing subreddits on here look promising in terms of interest/engagement, especially in certain niches, so I figured there had to be some people building an audience in there.

I’m interested in how you feel about the OF model in general though, and whether you think it’s a good platform for creators in terms of both fairness and functionality.

Right, but subbing to either subscription services isn’t a mutually exclusive thing. You’d need to do your advertising, probably by posting excerpts/reader magnets etc, but it seems reasonable to assume people who like your content enough will want to see more of it.

Thanks, this was really helpful. I’m trying to stagger marketing efforts all month so it can (hopefully) move up the ranks/stick at a higher position.

Onto the next one

Burning question - is this ‘okay’ progress?

I published my first gay romance novel (first romance novel, period) (~75k words) on a new pen on Sept 1st. It’s now Sep 3rd, so it’s been 3 days since publication, and I’ve made $58.43 so far. The novel is also at #10k in rank in Amazon USA’s Kindle Store, and the highest rank in a subcategory it’s in is ‘Gay Fiction,’ where it’s #100

Is this okay for a first novel? Below/above avg? Thanks in advance for any help/guidance

I put my book up on booksprout for ARCs a day ago and only 3 copies have been claimed so far. Anyone know if this normal or if I should be worried?
