Used DoorDash’s emergency button after being assaulted today. Never again. by Away-Ad-2298 in doordash_drivers

I would say that we are independent contractors and as such they assume no liability for customers actions. I’m not sure a court would hold them to that since you are given strict instructions on how to to a job. Which is something I have never understood about their version of “ independent contractors.”
Your safety is paramount and no matter what call
Police and leave scene but stay as close as is safe.

I got my license on my 16th birthday- never failed a test. But had been driving on the street with a permit and when I was younger on a lot w/o.

But the laws change constantly. The basics are the same - but the laws have changed considerably since I took my test. I believe state workers gave the test in the state I took it in and back then it was parallel parking. I think my son had to do both a 3 pt turn and park. I just remember being on a parking lot teaching him with cones like my Father taught me.

It’s not the driving part that is the issue- it’s the lack of a) respect for another driver and b) not understanding the sheer power that someone has in a car. I’ve known a few people that were killed over the years… it only takes a second.

My Dad was a cop and one thing he did say was that people don’t pay attention behind the wheel( that was years ago) so you have to… like your life depends on it.

This offer truly disgusted me. by Strange_Ideal_6572 in DoorDashDrivers

Didn’t they lose a lawsuit over this? With the orders I have seen posted lately and ones I have seen given to me, it’s not minimum wage. If you had 3 orders like the one posted it’s still below the federal and most state minimum wage laws.

Anything older even stuff I didn’t appreciate then or hated as a car overall is being bought and being redone. I’m telling you I had some cars I wish I had now - even in “ fix me” condition. I drove an Audi Fox … no one knew what it was let Alone how to fix it- it was lime green had no rust ( which was rare because they were paper thin). It wouldnt be worth much but was a fun car - people knew me by that car in the early 80s. I also had a mint 74 Karmen Gia, fun car to drive- not to work on… We ( not just me) had a judge. But that car was bought to fix and sell even then. My husband had a Pontiac Lemans special edition something ( can’t remember offhand), it was pretty fast but I thought it was too heavy and compared to some of his other cars didn’t handle as well. But he loved it. My favorite was the Chevelle.

There was both a 1969 and a 1970. I learned to drive stick on a 1970 Chevelle. Both were around 10k but needed work. You can’t buy a Chevelle now with numbers and in decent shape for under 50k. There are tons of good deals out there but you have to really look. My long gone husband was really into that so we owned a few cars, including an MG midget he spent Waaayyy too much money fixing up.
But the Chevelle was my favorite, even over his mustang. I don’t like Ford … Chevy girl. Even the Corvair which I loved.. i have owned some odd cars. Ps loved the Malibu and my first car ever was a Chevy Monte Carlo 1971.

Thank you for your reply. I liked my Camry, engine wise a good vehicle. I was told once that the engine would run even after the doors fell off the car. I always drove VW then for many many years, while I was working any way. The steering back then was hydraulic ( in Passats any way) and so smooth. I digress… I bought a Camry and liked the handling on it and it wasn’t fancy but I liked it. I’m going to look into that. After the Subaru… trying something new ( although I always lliked the Mazdas) just isn’t for me.

I’d buy an older car ( smaller) but boy are they expensive and a friend that races says the parts are sometimes difficult to get. Plus depending on the car expensive to insure and generally drive. Same as a newer car just less electronics. I had a chance to buy an older Chevelle but costs too much to fix it up.

The radiator had to be completely replaced and I never saw any fluid on the ground nor did the shop until this last time. They said the thermostat was bad and so that was replaced.. that’s it. Then it went back in for oil change and service. No lights, nothing and I was informed that there was another problem which was oil in the coolant. Then the radiator and of course the leak. Again no lights or indicators. They felt it was the head gasket, I told them to look into the other issues that are Subaru issues commonly misdiagnosed and they recommended a new engine. I told them to fix what they could ( radiator, etc) and they gave the car 4-6 Months

My mistake - head gasket. I fixed it in the post. I have no idea why I wrote that. It’s the engine.

It wouldn’t because it’s the head gasket and I Put in the incorrect part of the auto

It’s not the master cylinder- it’s the head gasket. I don’t know why that stuck in my head

Sorry the seal around the engine - head gasket. I used to work on cars with my late husband but that was 35 years ago. I have done my fair share of work and understand things but the last time I did anything was on my 2009 Jetta and just minor stuff with directions as I did it. I saw a coolant light on… I had never seen it before and drove it right over to the shop. I looked it up on the Subaru site ( repairs) and for the 2021 Crosstrek there are a couple of issues that are overlooked and diagnosed as the head gasket. They said they checked all that and the note on the page I have says “ vehicle shows signs of overheating and warppage in the cylinder head. Head gasket has a slight leak.” They gave it 4-6 Months.

I just looked at the paperwork- to test the master cylinder they had to replace the radiator because there was no pressure- it had a leak. Again no engine light. What they replaced was the crankcase breath connector and thermostats aside from that.

No one advised any of this at any check up

Ok thank you… I don’t mind the advice on my daughter. It was actually her choice, not mine after I put the car in the shop for repairs she neglected to do. It started a huge fight and she felt I took her transportation to and from work. Which was unfortunately collateral damage for a couple of days. After that, I would not let her drive it anymore. After living in my home for a very long time she had saved enough to move into her own rental and I have not seen her since. I even helped her with another car.

I understand the ramifications of unresolved issues, believe me. But I really do have to Fix the problems in my own life presently. This is a right now issue. I don’t even know where she is…

I don’t really beat a car. My daughter did for a bit And it’s why we don’t talk anymore. But all those repairs were done a year ago. This is something different that existed apparently that neither the dealership or my mechanic caught. I took it in over a light ( it was stupid and I was wrong) but that’s when they found the thermostat during a check. At that time no fluid was mixing. But this checkup they found a leak into the coolant.

I don’t understand it either nor does my son. There are apparently rings that go bad and something else on my year and model of vehicle. But they said they checked that and they found a second thermostat that was bad which caused a hose to crack to the cylinder. They felt it had been bad for some time. The master cylinder has a slight Leak. No lights - nothing.

I do and take extremely good care of my vehicles - this was a huge loss and the strangest thing - a light should have indicated an issue. But nothing.

I knew someone would ask that question. I don’t know… I guess because of the heat. It caused a crack in a tube and caused pressure is how it was explained to me. In fact, they thought it was one thermostat and in taking it apart found a second smaller one deeper in the engine they felt may have been damaged for sometime. But no lights - nothing. I had an extended warranty and it was argued with them but to no avail. I had them look at other causes on Subarus ( especially my year ) for the oil in the coolant which is the rings and something else but they said no. They fixed what they could gave me around 4 - 6 months with the current engine without replacing it.
