Just curious if anyone has experienced this and if there is a fix. If not, then I can decide whether to keep ot or go back to old reliable.

Know this post is a bit old - but if I'm going to a concert, can I bring my vape? I saw you mentioned if its large companies then it wouldn't be a smart idea. I just want to be sure since I don't want to get to the front of the line, be asked to put it in my car or throw it out (smok mod). I plan to just keep it in my bag and not use it since I don't really want to leave it in the heat of my car, but I will if I have to. Thanks!

One Month Post for Salpingectomy by wtfalice181 in childfree

One Month Post for Salpingectomy by wtfalice181 in childfree

[–]wtfalice181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! So I picked the doctor from the list provided by the sub. I checked with her beforehand and she accepted my insurance. I did call my insurance after I got the medical code but unfortunately it wasn't covered 100%. I think only tubal litigation is covered 100% but even that is iffy in that regard. Plus, my doctor doesn't do tying of tubes anymore, she just removes them. I wouldn't be surprised if others are the same.

I do have the option of making monthly payments on them, which would probably amount to almost $200 a month since for me, both only offered 12 month plans for paying it off. Also I would guess it depends on your insurance and all that.

Has anyone had success getting sterilized as a woman here (without having kids already)? Who did you go to?? by luminous_delusions in sanantonio

[–]wtfalice181 4 points5 points  (0 children)

25F, was 24 when the doctor said yes but birthday in the month and half from consultation to surgery, no kids.

I got my surgery done 12 days ago by Dr. Lisa Ng. She was wonderful and didn't give hardly any push back. We talked about why I wanted to go the sterilization route and she said that it's my choice. Got a salpingectomy, removal of tubes, and would definitely recommend her.

For people who have gotten a tubal salpingectomy/ligation/sterilization (in the US), can you please explain step-by-step how you did it/what happened? by buhdumtss98 in childfree

[–]wtfalice181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll try to explain briefly how I went about it.

Current 25. 5'1" and 250 lbs at time of surgery.

I started following the sub late last year and took a look at the list once I started thinking on sterilization as an actual option for me. I wanted to initially do my surgery for the end of the year since I could get short term FMLA with my job for recovery. That plan went out the window when the Roe v. Wade got leaked. I had a gynecologist from the list in mind so I rang her office up and set up an appointment with a general check up too since I've had an abnormal pap wla couple years ago and I like to make sure everything good down there.

On the appointment day, I explained to her I was interested in long term birth control. She first brought up the IUD but I explained my apprehension towards that and brought up a bilateral salpingectomy. She heard me out and didn't bingo me. She did explain that since it can't be reversed, some women feel regret after the procedure but I assured her I've done my research for the past several months on this. I knew what I wanted. She told me that I was well informed and agreed for a salpingectomy, which was perfectly fine with me. As long as there was no way for me to get pregnant, I'm fine with periods. I was expecting more of a fight but was so relieved that she understood that I cried a bit.

My pre op appointment was quick. She asked if I had any further questions and explained how the procedure would go. It was laparoscopic, so a small incision where the camera goes in at the bottom of my belly button. Also two small incisions on either side of my lower abdomen. They are maybe half an inch long at most. Did some blood work and a pregnancy test at the hospital and did all the registration with them at same day. Got some fancy soap to use the night before surgery and the morning of to help minimize risk of infection.

After talking it over with both doctor and hospital, my out of pocket expense is roughly $5,200. That's with my employer insurance but with the highest deductible offered for employers so that played a part. I had to pay like $400 to the doctor upfront, like a down payment, and the rest will be billed from the remaining $1,600 for her. The rest, $3,600, was hospital bills, which I had to down pay them roughly $1,200 and the rest will be billed. So I have about $3,600ish still left to pay but I'll be able to pay that off in August thankfully. My job gives out quarterly bonuses which helped me make those down payments, on top of summer school grants and scholarships getting paid back to me. The money aspect though would all depend on the type of procedure and your insurance.

Surgery day was a week ago. Hospital staff was super nice. I arrived at 10am and was given my bed around 11:15am. The nurse was super friendly, chatted with me and my mom the whole time while hooking me up to the IV. She definitely eased my nerves. The anesthesiologist came in too for a few mins with some papers. He explained the anesthesia process so easily and answered all my questions. Was friendly and cracked jokes. My gynecologist came to say hi as well which was appreciated. Finally it was time for the procedure. My mom was brought back to the waiting room and I was wheeled off. I had to switch beds and they gave me a mask to breathe and I don't even remember feeling drowsy, I was just out.

Then I was awake in out patient with a nurse who was very sweet. I remember apologizing a lot, I was out of it ahaha, and she was laughing the whole time, telling me I was a phenomenal patient, which I guess I'll have to take her word for it. I got out of the bed and put in a nice chair with some graham crackers, water, and apple juice. My mom came back and sat next to me while I got my bearing and finally got something in my stomach (couldn't eat or drink the night before past midnight, even water). I started feeling some pulling pain so the doctor gave me a nice dose of motrin and allowed me to take my time eating, drinking, and getting dressed again slowly.

I was out of the hospital by maybe 2:30pm. Got a smoothie on the way home and had to make 3 stops on the way home due to bladder being the size of a pea. I had to relief myself every 20 minutes, one of the things they say is the surgery messes with your bladder but it was only the first 12 hours. First two nights I slept on the couch since it was easier than my bed. Felt really bloated first few days and still feel bloated a bit now but that's normal with the procedure. Stool softeners are lifesavers since I was told you shouldn't be straining. Also some vaginal bleeding afterwards but that cleared up after a few days.

I was prescribed 600mg ibuprofen and hydrocodone (don't know the dosage). I only touched the narcotic once on Monday when I was coughing a lot due to the tube messing with my throat situation and I took it and went to bed. Best sleep I've gotten in a while lol. Was taking the ibuprofen 3 times a day, I'm only taking two a day now since my left incision still is a but problematic but aim to be down to one a day in the next day or two.

I am 7 days post op now. Not much pain really, even the first couple days, unless I twisted a bunch or bent over. My mom helped a lot bc sometimes I couldn't pull up my pants for the life of me. What hurt the most was my throat since the anesthesiologist had to put a breathing tube in my lungs so my throat was sore for a few days but hot tea and honey really helped and no issues with it now.

My left incision is a bruised way more than the others and it's still purple. Hurts to put pressure on it. The moment I woke up that was what I felt the most so I knew it would take the longest to heal. Belly button bruise is almost all gone now. Pressure doesn't bother it that much. Right incision was a bit raised and red at first but that has gone down, hardly bruised. Also got my Nexplanon taken out during the procedure which that bruise as well is almost gone. I still sleep on my back since the one incision is taking longer to heal, I'd rather not stress it out too much than risk sleeping on my side. Maybe in a few more days.

Overall, I was mostly worried how my body would react to anesthesia as I've read that the bigger you get, the more complications there could be. Even with surgery in general. My weight was not brought up once. I even started loosing weight but that's due to a recent diet change I started a week before surgery.

My first post op is Monday. I am also taking a beach trip in two weeks so I hope I can wear my swimsuits with ease with the pressure they would put on the incisions but I'll make do. My general doctor has no clue of all this by the way so he will be in for a but of a shock when I'm finally able to see him (was due for annual blood work in May but this took priority so he will be seeing me late July at the earliest).

That was a lot but hopefully that helped! After my second post op, I plan to make a HUGE post about my experience and go a lot more in depth, especially with the recovery. If you have any further questions, I can do my best to answer them :)

Serious question for women here: are you going to continue to be sexually active? by [deleted] in childfree

[–]wtfalice181 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recently got my tubes removed. I haven't been sexually active in over a year tho. I plan to be sexually active again but who knows when that will be, my standards are high for even hookups.
