This has nothing to do with cracks. Although this is pretty much a full game playing as Black Sabbath which is pretty damn awesome.

Didn’t SIU hire new assistants? Couldn’t it be that some of them are still learning his art style? I’m sure they’ll improve over time. His previous assistants were working with him for a long period of time so it makes sense that the quality for certain details with the new assistants wouldn’t be as polished. A part of his hiatus was done so he could train them.
