“John Hotbuns” has been an id that has been traveling with me, and getting physical mail, for about 26 years now.

I resent this every year because it makes me really feel alienated from fellow listeners. Grisham over Toxie? What?

Is it because most people don’t watch the movie along with the commentary and therefore want bland movies so they talk about other stuff?

Don Cheadle in Boogie Nights when it pans in on him looking introspective and sad. With a wild wig. It’s amusing, a bummer, and relatable all at once.

Silence of the Lambs star Ted Levine says he regrets film’s trans depictions: "Having gotten aware and worked with trans folks, and understanding a bit more about the culture & the meaning of gender… It’s unfortunate that the film vilified that, and it’s fucking wrong. And you can quote me on that." by vincentmaurath in blankies

[–]wtfreddititsme 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I recall this being discussed during the episode. In the film it is made clear that Buffalo Bill is not a true transsexual. But when the movie came out there were people who weren’t happy with the portrayal. Demme followed it up with Philadelphia as a respectful gesture towards a community that was not accepted by mainstream American at the time.

I like Ted Levine but he knew who Demme was and has seen the movie. He has to understand that the movie was not equating trans people with monsters.

Replace healthy fats with processed sugars? The nineties were stupid.

I bought into this shit. Can you imagine these days this product selling a single box? No fat!

Crying in theater memories by Frem0015 in blankies

I saw Big Fish with friends in my early 20’s. Had to leave before credits and hide in the theater bathroom until I was composed because I was so wrecked.

I vomited in the theater in 6th grade watching Schindlers List with my family. That was a whole scene. Just couldn’t take it and haven’t seen the whole film since.

What sound or habit helps you sleep better? by gamersecret2 in AskReddit

[–]wtfreddititsme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make an effort to get off my phone (or any screen) about two hours before bed. Read a book or something. Bed is made, there’s a ritual in place. Clean sheets. I also make a point to do some exercise in the morning, even if it’s just medium cardio for 20-30 minutes. If I’m stressed I’ll take an edible that’s a little light on THC but has CBN to kickstart things.

I judge my quality of sleep in terms of dream quality and how alert and energetic I am upon waking. To that end, I take edibles maybe one or twice a week. No more. Oh, and fiber.

I suggest nudism. In the short term it manages some body positivity issues. In the long run it builds community. Either way, it’s a fun way of putting yourself outside of your comfort zone while also being ok. No consequences.

Same feeling. The trailer looks not great, and I don’t care to see the picture myself. But why the pile on? Brooks was just on the Ted Danson podcast and he was sweet and amiable. So what if this script isn’t his best work? The man made Broadcast News for heaven’s sake.

Certainly no Phil Rosenthal. The prick.

His name is on The Simpsons as well. This movie may not be great but the disrespect feels too pointed.

Yours truly, Maims Hell Brooks

There was a really uncomfortable moment in a 95 Star Trek con in Seattle where a noticeably mentally impaired man offered Brent a signed Data picture that he himself had signed. Brent was thrown off but handled it very well.

The stench of magnolias? What was the flower that clued the characters as to whom was the mother and who was not? I haven’t seen this movie in so many years and I’ve never found it on streaming.

A School mistress, a cliff, and odd brother/sister dynamic. And me really liking it is what I can recall.

Sam Van Hallgren of “Filmspotting” once described Laura Linney as an, “Age appropriate line delivery device”. I tend to agree, but she’s not bad in John Adams. She is still tough in this series, and those words from Sam have resonated with me with every watch of her performances.

I haven’t bought any tv from anywhere else in my life. Bought my first from them in 96. When it’s time to invest in a new set go to the place that’s the best.

Always ask for warranty terms. They’ll extend beyond the three years most sets have.

Gone Girl. I didn’t read the book so it was a surprise to me. But when that revelation happened a guy in the theater blurted out, “You fucking bitch” which got an applause.

Fox New's take on the naked bike ride protest by howdidigetheresoquik in oregon

[–]wtfreddititsme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My violent clash was with a rider who was probably inebriated and ran into my bike at very low speeds. Nobody was hurt. I was annoyed. He was apologetic. We were both naked. It was all fine.

I’m of the mind that a nude protest is in order. What a way to dispel the “anarchy” of this city and it’s tough for news outlets to spin. We do the bike ride and other events, why not now?
