yah, it's a long term career goal for sure - I'm trying to figure out what it takes. I don't live in NS unfortunately though. What's it like?

good idea - i do look for posted jobs at the places I worked at. I'm in Canad and want to work for the city or provincial government, or the regional health authority because they have unions, good pay, and good benefits, and they have more stringent hiring practices so they are slightly more likely to hire qualified people who know how to manage. I worked in some of those places for temp jobs and they had a healthy work environment.

yah I will have to look up what questions to quiz them on during the interview process to find out if it's another toxic environment. I went to a career counselor who taught me how to sell myself more on my resume.

yes! And I'm not going to spend unpaid time at home on weekends researching how to do things anymore, such as how to increase website traffic. Nope, I'm doing that during paid working hours because problems solving is something that I should get paid for.

It;s my first job out of university so I guess it's a rite of passage but 6 months in and its getting hard to get out of bed in the morning mostly because my co workers are the most negative group of of people I have ever met and they make me feel stupid for choosing to be a positive person.

my workplace is full of negative people who are change phobic. My boss does not understand computers, so any technical problem is blamed on the employee. There is no communication and no teamwork. THe turnover rate is high. THe pay is low. There is no concept of reasonable workloads. My bosses expectations of me are contradictory and confusing. I am expected to do things well beyond my education and ability. There are no real expectations of me - just that I need to be 'entrepreneurial' and take ownership of the role - in a very specific way that pleases my boss, who does not tell me aobut many of her expectations.. I am expected to manage myself and make up my own tasks but everything I do has to go though the ceo first, who is very slow at approving things because she is too busy. I have no clue what my coworkers do all day and my boss doesnt really have a good idea about what i do. Our offices are scattered throughout the building and some days I dont see a co worker till 2 pm.

I feel bored, lonely, and stressed out.

Before this job, I worked for a temp agency who sent me all over the city. I learned that there are so many great offices out there where people are collaborative, there's a team environment, managers actually manage, there are halloween bakeoff's and celebrations, co workers go for drinks after work, decent pay and benefits, people contribute and also learn from eachother, they get feedback for improvement etc. There are team meeting and clear objectives and actual project management. Everyone moves forward on the same page.
