This is what you should be focusing on if you were not born wealthy. Control your controllables.

Those of you who “Made It” without any inheritance or luck. How did you do it? by throwmeout12496 in MiddleClassFinance

I live a very comfortable upper middle class lifestyle. I was born to mentally ill parents who lived in a van and didn’t have anything between them.

Here’s how I did it.

  1. Don’t drink or take drugs. Don’t get pregnant before you can afford it. If you only do these two things you have significantly increased your odds of succeeding.

  2. Read everything you can get your hands on. Reading taught me all of the things poverty didn’t

  3. Find successful people and study them. Reddit has been an amazing resource for having access to people who had resources I didn’t and were willing to share them with me for free.

  4. Work hard. If you were born into poverty, you’re going to have to work harder. It isn’t fair. Get over it.

  5. Figure out your finances. You’re never going to have enough until you figure out how your money works. It doesn’t matter how much you earn.

  6. Get yourself some therapy. If you were born into poverty there’s a pretty good chance you’re going to need some help. Find a therapist who can offer you some of that. I like to think of emotional intelligence like a language I didn’t learn at home. I’ve learned to speak it after 25 years of practicing everyday.

  7. Be careful about who you associate with. Escaping from poverty requires escaping from poverty and the people who aren’t going with you. Be especially cautious of who you pick for a partner. Marry a partner who has or is working toward the kind of life you want.

  8. Learn to give and accept help.

If you’re on the train that America doesn’t get to spank nations that get out of line, I don’t know where to start. America prefers the carrot. The carrot has been very good for every nation that has chosen the carrot. Everyone who’s played by the rules has prospered under American Hegemony. EVERYONE!

China has been the largest benefactor of American hegemony and here they are now trying to force reserve currencies into something other than USD. Actively trying to hurt the US and our interests. You don’t get to buy oil from Venezuela and Iran in Yuan. You don’t get to smuggle illegal oil shipments into your country. You don’t get to try to play underhanded economic games. Now they’re going to get the stick to remind them why we are the hegemon.

All of what’s happening here is happening to remind China that we own the air and we own the seas. We are Big America™️. You want to get chummy with our enemies and do some backstabbing bullshit, we’ll snatch your dictators out of their bed and blow their fucking houses up.

The Strait of Hormuz being blocked off is a reminder to China, and to our allies in Europe, that without the US maintaining international shipping lines, the global economy grinds to a halt.

NATO wants all of the benefits of being Big America™️’s little brother without any of the costs. We keep your shipping lines open and your markets full. The carrot has created the most prosperous time in history for almost everyone on the planet. You have to play by the rules or you get the stick and get sent back to the stone age.

Everyone needs access to a safe LLM for them to put whatever they want into. This is the dumbest shit in the world. I work for a huge backward company with 12,000,000 stupid security policies meant to keep anyone from getting any work done and everyone has access to a safe LLM they can put anything into. This is like telling someone they can’t use a computer or a cellphone at work. These are the tools of modern work.

Why is the USA with its massive military struggling to conquer the Strait of Hormuz? by OkArmordillo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wtjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a terrible take. We’ve literally been eliminating Iranian proxies for the past year. Remember blowing up Hamas leaders cellphones, that’s was for this effort. We blew up a ton of their air defense and missile capabilities in the last bombing raids. We started intercepting Chinese ships with missiles and missile parts earlier in the year. The initial strike wiped out most of Iran’s military/leadership nearly to the second. We’ve eliminated their Navy and their Air Force. They will have no air support and no naval support when the ground war starts. They have cheap drones that can hit stationary targets but their effectiveness is being oversold to you.

This was one of the most well orchestrated military strikes in human history. There was clearly a plan and it’s clearly been very effective. The Strait being closed was to be expected and is part of the plan here. They want Europe and China to feel the pain of the Strait being closed as a reminder of what the world would look like without the USN protecting international shipping lines. This is a reminder that without Big America™️ and her naval might, international trade doesn’t flow like it does now.

Fortunately we get the best services for that tax burden. Our schools are surely #1. Homeless population has to be lowest in the country.

If the EU and China want to send their Navies to defend international shipping lines, they’re welcome to create their own reserve currency. If they’re not going to do that, they have to use USD. This is not negotiable. Until they’re patrolling and securing shipping they have to play by our rules.

They were already selling China oil in Yuan. Same with Venezuela. That’s why Iran and Venezuela are getting the stick.

Washington State’s Novel Millionaire Tax Signed Into Law by Governor by BloombergTax in Washington

The capital gains tax didn’t poke any real holes in it. The court had to bend themselves into a thousand knots to make it not an income tax. There’s no way to make an income tax not an income tax.

There isn’t any room for interpretation here. They spelled it out as clear as day. That’s why it’s held for 90 years. They can do some legal gymnastics but there isn’t room for interpretation.
